WLIR for Sale

WEPN is still being broadcast on WLIR but the sale to Livingstone Broadcasting was approved by the FCC on 4/12/11.

Stay tuned as they say......

While it didn't coincide with the end of the World on 5/21/11, the sale to Livingstone was completed on 5/25/11. Thus ends the Morey 24 year run in Long Island Radio that began in 1987.

Ok, now it's a MONTH later! ;D What's the latest news on 107.1's signal? There is a 1 watt translator on the air here in New Haven, CT, so there's not a snowball's chance in Hades of me hearing it, here in West Haven. :-\

It would be interesting to see WLIX-LP get a full-power signal! If they got it for only $650K, isn't that a record LOW price for a full Class A FM signal in this area?

Here is something interesting....

Grand Larceny

The owner of Livingstone Broadcasting in Riverside, which broadcasts WLIR 107.1, told Southampton Town Police on Tuesday, June 21 that sometime between that date and Sunday, June 19 someone stole two transmitters worth a total of $10,000 from the station, located on County Road 51. A lock and chain on a fence leading into the property were arranged differently from when the owner left a few days before. The lock to the storage shed was also damaged, the owner told police. Police are investigating.

Ohhhhkayyyy... TWO transmitters? Main & Backup? ONLY $10K?? ???

I assume the station is off the air, now?

Yes..two transmitters or actually the exciters for the transmitters. The main on air one was installed around March and the back up was the older one in a nearby rack. The station was back up and running the next day and is still running ESPN at the moment.

I'm not sure about the legalities...but is there some kind of federal offense if a Radio station is taken off the air by the actions of an individual or individuals who commit a theft like this while the station was actively on the air? ???

OK, so they only swiped the exciters... did they remove them from the transmitter cabinets? (I presume they were mounted there, as opposed in an adjacent rack?) If the former, then it's someone who obviously knows SOMETHING about radio, because they apparently knew enough to shut things down, first. Swiping it from a rack would have taken less skill, since it would pose a much lower risk... no matter HOW or WHY, it's still WRONG!

Not sure about the federal offense, but it could be! Someone more familiar with legal matters should chime in. :)

I wonder what transmitters were at the site.
I was the Asst Engineer at 107.1 when it was Country 107.1 owned by Big City Radio as a Quadcast.
Southhampton did Not have a backup transmitter. the only transmitter in there was QEI 3.5K and another station also had a QEI in there
But I forgot what Freq they were on 96.? 99.?
The Building did have an alarm on it at the time.
One day out doing maintaince I could not Turn off the alarm when it went off.. in less then 10 Mins Suffolk PD was at the site.
I guess they No longer have an alarm or it was Disabled…

I'm told the the exciter was brand new and the older one was there also. The locks were combination style and they were found opened. The units were dismantled by someone who had the proper tools and carefully disconnected it from the unit and took the station off the air. It was definitely someone who had knowledge of the site and the combo to the locks.

I was listening to WLIX a short while ago. The on-air personality at the Christian station said they will be on 107.1 soon. He also gave a shout out to the people in Nassau county listening on the 101.5 translator.
I wonder whether they will hold onto all the translators they are currently using on LI, once they are no longer a LPFM.

WLIR began broadcasting WLIX-LP programming on August 1, 2011. All of the translators continue with the WLIX-LP programming.

Even without 94.7, WLIX is still broadcasting on 6 frequencies. I wonder if they will vacate some of them, as there is a considerable amount of overlap in the coverage of at least two.

Map of WLIX's 6 Signals: http://wlixradio.net/wordpress/wlix-coverage-map/

Yeah, 96.9 is completely redundant! They could also drop the 96.5! If I were them, I would talk to K-Love about that one! They may want it, to extend their own coverage of WKLV to that part of the Island! :)

But where's the 94.7 you're talking about?
