WLIT and the Christmas music

I always wondered why WLIT ends the Christmas music at the end of Christmas Day instead of continuing it through the end of the year. Didn't they used to play it through the end of the year? Do they feel people tire of it after hearing it ad nauseum for six/seven weeks? Something to do with their regular advertisers? A know-it-all/know-nothing at work said it has something to do with the union contract beween WLIT management and their radio station engineers. Can anyone shed some LIT here? (sorry)

I guess it just makes sense not to play Christmas music that far into the month of December.

Think about it: Would you play "The Monster Mash" on November 9?

Christmas music usually starts on WLIT and many other AC stations right around Thanksgiving. I'm a Christmas music lover, but even on Dec 26 it sounds stale and becomes more so as we approach New Year's Eve and Day. It feels fresh and new once again come the following November, which IMHO is the fun of it.

If one needs a fix of Christmas music year round there are internet stations to fill that need. Merry Christmas to all and happy listening! :)

+1. I personally like to see it kept going a little beyond Christmas, but I'm sure I'm clearly in the minority. What CC/WLIT do is also a moot point for me, since I either listen to my iPod or online streaming for my annual Christmas music fix.

Many places are playing WLIT including my medical office. However, once they start back with their regular song log which includes everything except "Lite Songs" we turn it off. I can't have disco music playing with patients that are having medical procedures. The same holds true in many other offices. I know some offices are not allowed to listen to WLIT because of the types of music they play. It would be nice if they just played Soft Rock. So many great love songs out there and the need for a lite station during office hours would be nice. We enjoy the music that they play during the holidas however after Dec 25 we turn on 87.7.

I'm with you! I get my Christmas music from Sirius/XM's Holiday Traditions or Music Choice's Sounds of the Season. I very much prefer traditional Christmas music. :)

I like to play my vinyl Christmas records during the holidays since I like old traditional carols. IMO the Christmas Lite plays a lot of boring dreck and airs the same tracks way too often.

I think it would be good if WLIT and all Christmas music stations kept the spirit alive during the week after Christmas with winter songs like Sleigh Ride and Let It Snow Let It Snow and Winter Wonderland. The change back to regular wouldn’t seem so abrupt and it would add a little holiday flavor to the week a lot of people have off.

I was glad when WLIT ended their Christmas musicat midnight December 26th. I remember even back in the 80's (don't remember if the calls were WLIT back in the late 80's, or if they were WLAK) that they ended their Christmas music at midnight December 26th. I would listen and usually around midnight, a commercial or the DJ talking would pause the music, then at midnight or a w minutes after midnight, the Christmas music is over for the year. I know Sirius/XM would continue it to at least New Years Day. After Christmas is over, I stop listening to the Christmas music. I want to not think about Christmas until next year. I hate the stores that get their Christmas stuff out in September, but that's a whole other topic.

I feel the same and I love Christmas music. Sirius/XM did continue both Holly and Holiday Traditions until New Year's Day. Believe it or not, Music Choice's Sounds of the Season channel is still playing Traditional Christmas Music.

Next November, I'll gladly embrace Christmas music once again. Right now, it's time to move on to the new year. :)

I'm not really for playing Christmas music after Christmas, but I would compromise with sprinkling some music in. Just not wall-to-wall music.

That’s what I mean Golden Boy. Sprinkle in a few winter songs – not Christmas songs – between Christmas and New Years just to keep some of the spirit of the season alive during that holiday week. Silver Bells, Let It Snow, Winter Wonderland, Baby It’s Cold Outside, Sleigh Ride, say one an hour. I hate the way stations just cut off the seasonal music. What can I tell ya? I’m a woman.... I don’t like things ending abruptly, I like to cuddle awhile.

Silver Bells is the only one that wouldn't fit in the week after Christmas because of the line "Soon it will be Christmas Day". The others are just fine. Some others that would fit the week after Christmas are My Favorite Things, Count Your Blessings, I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm, Winter Wonderland, Sleigh Ride, and others with a winter rather than a Christmas theme. :)

You’re right about Silver Bells Radioman. Sorry I didn’t think of that line in the lyrics. Another one that could be played a few times Christmas week is that song What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?

That would be appropriate. Another New Year's themed song is Barry Manilow's It's Just Another New Year's Eve. Haven't heard that one in several years. :)

next year all stations should do a 7pm-12am marathon of christmas music weekday nights then @ midnight go back to normal music until 7pm

It won't happen! WLIT and other AC stations get a big ratings boost when they go all-Christmas. As long as that's the case, you'll have six weeks of Christmas music in November and December. :)
