WLIT's Website Already Has the Holiday Theme!

Expect WLIT to go all Christmas sometime between November 10th and November 20th at the earliest. Otherwise the day after thanksgiving.

I would not be the least bit surprised if WLIT went Christmas November 1st. It's a proven ratings generator, and solidfying yourself as THE Christmas Station, even a few weeks early is not such a bad thing.

All the stores put their Christmas displays up November 1st and whether you want to buy your stuff then or not. When you're ready in a couple of weeks to put the tree up you'll remember to head over there because you know they've got it.

Now on WLIT.com, you can listen to all of your Christmas favorites if you JUST CAN'T WAIT for November to come around. Clear Channel's WNIC in Detroit has the same thing up on their website as well.

The reality is that it is following the trends of the market....has anyone looked at what the stores are featuring? I went to Sam's Club last week looking for Halloween decorations and was told that they were right next to the Christmas decorations. There were no Halloween decorations, a few wreaths for Thanksgiving and 3/4 of the aisle was dedicated to Christmas. I believe that it's retailers that are driving this.

I remember a time when the Halloween "decorations" came to the house, demanded candy and then went away. When did it become the thing to decoration for any and all "holidays"--as for Clear Channel, WLIT makes them a bunch of money with that Christmas programming, if Clear Channel could, they would play carols all year long.

I think a lot of people enjoy putting up outdoor decorations for Halloween because it can be done in the warm weather. Of course, if we all would only take WLIT's hint, no one would bother with the Halloween stuff because it would be full metal Christmas on every block right now.

That the only way the lite can make money. Doing the "holiday" thing. They are losing their ass on Delilah and need to make it up in other ways. Watch for a format/positioning change to occur after the new year folks.

You read it here FIRST!

November 2 and WLIT is already playing all Christmas music.
Next thing you know they will start with Christmas the day after Labor Day.
It's just too early.

According to Feder's column: The corporate weasels at Clear Channel felt the time was right to begin their profitable Christmas tirade, but, Feder noted, the switch could have something to do with falling ratings rather than Christmas cheer or the headlong dash for advertising revenue.
