My guess is that I'm also somewhat older than Sky....which probably accounts for my fondness for THIS logo:

I remember that Logo. That thing was around when I was just learning to walk... LOL. As for the Kansas music, that theme hit the air when I was 12 years old. I think they used it until I was 15. Sure the newscast itself wasn't so great. But I'm not going to blame the rock group Kansas for that one. :)

Hey skynet -

I made you a few years younger. At this point in my life, I'll take younger anytime! :D

Let me also be clear that I have nothing against the song itself. I just didn't like it as a NEWS theme.

This will probably start another long discussion, but I didn't like Newscenter 12's "Hello News" theme music in the early 80's either. Overall, I liked the "Hello Rhode Island" campaign. However, the cut of "Hello News" that Newscenter 12 used seemed more appropriate for "Evening Magazine" than a newscast. There were other parts of the theme that were far more appropriate for a newscast.

Sky:

Yeah.....The Kansas tune WAS a good one. But...what ruined it for me were the cheezy looking animated graphics that went along with it.

It seemed every time they had an on-air anchor change, they would have to alter the open, and the newly added part never quite matched the look of the original open....making the whole thing look sloppy.

Good tune, though......

And they changed anchors several times during that period. I seem to recall them with John Sweeney, Magee Hickey, Chris Conanglia, Ann Conway among others.

I actually preferred the "Action News" format with Magee in New Bedford and Chris in Downtown Providence.

Some people at that station turned out to do very well. Chris Conangla went to Los Angeles. Ended up in Minneapolis though. Don't know what he is doing now. Magee Hickey went to New York and I think is still there.

Yes, Magee is still in New York and has done very well. Chris, I believe, is not currently in television. He was supposedly popular in Minneapolis, but was let go a few years back (probably due to having a higher salary). In addition, meteorologist Brad Field has been chief met with NBC 30 Connecticut since he left WLNE.

I've lived in several cities and every once in a while I'll see a reporter who I remember from Providence. For example, former WPRI reporter/anchor Deborah Horne has been at KIRO in my hometown of Seattle since the early 90's.
