WLNG BIG 50

What are the the plans for celebrating the 50th birthday of one of the most unique radio stations in America?

Um, 50 hours of jingles? j/k ;D

I heard Gary mentioning on air that anniversary day will feature Joe Ricker doing morning show Don Cannon during midday and Bruce Tria 2-3pm. among other features.

I called the station for the actual date. If it was on their website, I couldn't find it.

August 13th, Tuesday.

It'll be a lot of fun hearing Don Cannon again. Doubly fun because he won't be restricted by that lousy WOGL playlist this time.
Did Cannon ever work at WLNG, incidentally? A buddy of mine worked for him at WHRF AM-FM when Cannon was the PD there. And Cannon worked at/PDed WPAC. But I don't think Cannon ever worked at 'LNG .....

Should be fun as well to hear Bruce Tria. I know he'll consider this an abject tragedy (yeah, sure) but I've not heard him on the air.

Maybe WLNG can get a special dispensation from WWRL to broadcast on the AM for that day -- like they did 50 years ago ? Most likely, the vast bulk of the listeners were tuned to 1600 then, not 92.1

The continueing story of 'Cannon's Place'... WE HAVE MISSED YOU SO MUCH!!! Talk about a radio legend. Don Cannon should be on the air somewhere.

Cannon *retired* several years ago, RadioWiz. From WOGL Philadelphia. Went to Florida is what I heard.

That same dusty baritone (no doubt tempered by a few years of healthy living on the golf courses and engaging in golf-cart rage exchanges) did sound a bit long in the tooth, but that indomitable strut was still very much evident. That street corner conceit sounded as fresh as ever.

In the interim, you are invited to try out Rick Lewis of Top Shelf Oldies for a quite compatible substitute. They're easy to find. And they even have a great chat room.
And the music will FLOOR you. TSO is live every night of the week 8-11 with different hosts each night. All of them are superb.

Lewis is on live Friday nights 8-mid , and (for a while) on Sunday nights 8-11PM with a pre-recorded Top 40 countdown from some unlikely station.

Added bonus if you act now : Rick Lewis will remind you very much, voice-wise, of Bob Shannon from WCBS-FM.

Great job, WLNG ! Thankxs for the ride !
