Does anyone know what's going on with WLOU in the west end or have any info?

The King Bee said:This just in...am hearing from very reliable sources that, now that the Golden Door purchase of WLOU/WLLV/WTUV/WTUV-FM from Davidson Broadcasting is about to close (a couple of routine extensions of time for the closing were filed with the FCC), Peter Davidson is about to bounce most of the staff for new management, replace most of the air & operations staff, re-locate the facilities to a much more suitable studio/office complex Downtown with re-built studlos and modern equipment (with full automation for live-assist and unattended operations), with other upgrades. Even profesional imaging packages will come to the stations. It's about time!
Sounds like they're FINALLY ready to move those stations from the '70s into the new century! Understand the formats will stay the same, but they'll sound so much better so as to be "light years ahead" of their current sound. Even the phoner shows and listener call-ins will be properly screened, switched and delayed through a new Telos system for all three (WTUV AM/FM are usually simulcast) audio streams.
Sure hope this comes to pass...I'm sure Davidson didn't sink $3.36 M into these 4 stations to continue to get what they've been getting.

It would be so wonderful if one of these frequencies would become a serious news/talk station and give WHAS some competition. Any chance of that happening? Isn't 1240 the stronger of the 2 signals? The King Bee said:I'm not so sure about Bill Price staying...there was great slippage in the quality of the operations while he was in charge, and Golden Door is deadly serious about an almost-total purge at the Louisville cluster.
A couple of excellent candidates have already been interviewed for the head of the Louisville cluster as I hear it. One has both extensive TV as well as radio experience, has built LPTVs and has been a radio OM and ops & programming consultant (and is truly a walking encyclopedia on FCC Rules). He's considered the frontrunner. The other candidate isn't as strong in ops and management, but she has a sterling sales resume. Perhaps they're both hired as GM/OM and GSM, respectively?
What if...Bengalsfan said:Bill Price has been named GM of WLOU/WLLV. The stations are not moving from the Broadway location. The spanish stations will be overseen from Nashville, TN.
Overall, WLLV has the best signal when you take into account the deep nulls that WLOU has during the night. I really don't think either one of them are good enough to try a news/talk format on.
When I was a kid, it seems WTMT was a live country station & I also recall it shutting down at sunset. Can't speak to that particular station, but in the early - mid 1980's, rules changed that allowed many AM stations to operate with lower power after sunset...some with a watt or two, some with a few hundred watts & others with nothing at all. Not sure if the former WTMT operates in that mode or if they upgraded their antenna system to allow night operation at higher power.KyDXIn said:What if...Bengalsfan said:Bill Price has been named GM of WLOU/WLLV. WTUV 620 moved to the 1240 or 1350 signal and news/talk took over the 620 frequency? Seems like I remember WTMT signing off at sundown. When did that change?

No way. They were 24 hours a day when I was doing work for them. I lived about a half mile from their transmitter site at the time, and I lived in that house from 1988- 1995.
John Smith added the two towers and did the application for the night time pattern. It was well after I moved to Louisville in 1986.
It had to be 1990, give or take a year, that WTMT went 24 hours a day. Does anyone remember when John died? That would narrow it down more.
So back to my question, could 620 become a viable news/talk alternative to HAS on a local scene? I don't see LRS being anything than in the "also ran" category, but what if that talent moved to 620?KyDXIn said:What if...Bengalsfan said:Bill Price has been named GM of WLOU/WLLV.
