WLRS CHANGES FORMAT!

I was listening at 5pm - They played a id/sweeper that said "THE NEW 105.1 WLRS - Everything that ROCKS!" and then went into Crazy Train by Ozzy! What Gives???

I knew nothing but i think mainline is doing something right now bear in mind i would much rather them have gone in alternative route but i think rock is gonna be an easier sell with the advertisers but i would drop wlrs and rebrand it. WLRS is just damaged goods and i would fire all the air staff except skinny j aside from that they are on the right path.

I think they are sounding good. I wonder if this new and classic rock format will take away from WQMF and SFR.

I have good memories of when WLRS was Rock 102 about 20 years ago...this was right before they went AC (this was on 102.3). The calls do stand for Louisville's Rock Station. The nostalgia aside, WLRS's call sign ticket has probably been punched a couple too many times already...maybe it is time to retire it...

You could also say they stand for "Louisville's Radio Station" as they used to say in the 70s. But they really stand for Louisville Radio School.

I think this was a good move by mainline! I know their CEO is from Philly, maybe he got the idea from Philly's 93.3 WMMR? WMMR has a similer history to WLRS and since they changed to this type formate they have surrged back in the ratings and into 5th place in the #7 market. I guess we wil have to wait and see....All I can say is good luck LRS, I'm still rockin with ya!

HOTP you're the WLRS expert, what do you know? icycool, are they streaming?
HotPatrick, not trying to be rude just want to know, why are you the WLRS expert? Did you use to work there or something? I was friends with McGregor when he was in town doing the morning show and thats what got me hooked on LRS. It has had it troubles over the years no doubt, but LRS always seemed like a cool station to me. Whats your background with the station?

What exactly are they doing different? Sounding more like the Fox?

I'd love to give you my take on it....................but I can't get it in southern Indiana. I'm in the metro area but cannot pull their signal in, at least not in my house. I'll have to try it in the car today.

They sound a lot like the Fox USED to sound in the 90's, during their heyday. Ozzy, Alice in Chains, STP, Black Crows, Zep, etc.

Here's their song list from the last hour.

Lord of rock dude it is a joke i am no lrs expert. Everyone on this board knows how much i disliked them so it was a joke. There format was all over the road before and they didn't have but one decent talent that is what i had against them listening to freak joe waas a struggle for me and mcgregor was one of the best talent the station had really enjoyed his show!!! It lost its cool moniker several years ago!!! And they appealed to way to young a demo i love the alt format but they were not alt they would play metellica and then a modest mouse song? Those two bands do not belong on the same frequency.

Lrs now sounds nothing like the fox the fox is active rock and lrs i would call mainstream rock or just plain rock but the difference between the fox and lrs now is quite noticeable.

Good luck mainline with 105.1 you guys are on the right path even though i would rather it have been a straight alternative station such is life.

I really think WLRS is sounding good! I can't wait to see what WQMF does in return. This could be another LRS vs QMF war like in the '80's.

Isn't ALL rock the same except classic rock? Active rock, ALT, what's the difference?

Radioville my friend there is a huge difference between disturbed and garbage or limp bizkit and modest mouse and metalicca and the cold war kids and seether and gorillaz huge it is all rock but there is a huge difference between the two. The fox is active www.cd101.com in columbus is alternative go to yes.com put in the calls of wwcd in columbus and the fox wtfx huge difference. Active is just in your face alt is more come listen i don't know how to put it into words but there is a huge difference.

well I finally picked them up OK once I got past downtown on 65, though the signal is still iffy even then.

first impression is they are ok but play some newer stuff I've never heard of. As far as a LRS vs. QMF war of the 80s, LRS was on 102.3 back then. This signal cannot possibly compete with QMF or SFR as geographically wide as this metro is. I guess this approach could stop the bleeding for a while and create a little buzz...........maybe.

Like Greg said, its Louisville Radio School. I too have fond memories of WLRS 102 thirty years ago. Before QMF came along the original LRS was the best. Wally The Walrus, the Pepsi Pumper, the Homemade Albums and that great yellow bumper sticker. Not to memntion the pre Mtv days when WLRS broadcast Morning Sickness with Ron & Terry on cable TV. Those were the days.

I think it sounds like crap. I'm not up to date on "new" rock but I'm not impressed with the mix of old and new. Untill someone has the right size sack to put a decent AAA format on the air, I'm sticking with XM and WGTK.
