For the record, my daughter who is in her 30s & most of her friends love the oldies.

Not to be confused with my son who turned 30 last week and listens to XM 50s on 5 more than all of the other xm channels combined. But he's never heard of the Silver Dollar Survey, either! ;D

Again, stop with the anecdotal evidence you're attempting to provide. I can find 60 year olds who like Metallica, that doesn't mean you're talking about the majority of those in the age group.

The world is populated with anecdotes.
The important thing is that WLS has decided to shed listeners, and is waiting for listeners who like the new way
they are doing things. Best of luck.

It works in many markets, Tom...whether you care to believe it or not.

In Chicago since WLS-FM changed their format last fall I listen to the 60s channel on sirius/XM or my ipod.

We're on the same page there, radioman! Plus, for variety of an archival nature, I subscribe to ReelRadio.com and listen to old 89 WLS airchecks from the early 60s on (particularly the unscoped versions...they have the music). Quality is like listening on a transistor radio, though, in many cases; but not all. Oh well, it's still fun for me...

Also, if you have access to an Internet connection, KRTH HD2 plays 50s and 60s oldies. just google KRTH HD2 and you should find the link. there are still places to get our music when we want it.

YA, LETS BURY IT ON HD RADIO ::)... i'm waiting for HD radio to take off, like am/stereo did and QUADRAPHONICS... OOOH! QUADRAPHONICS...

I'm not advocating HD Radio. I agree with you totally that oldies should be on the regular airwaves. However, they are not giving it to us.
Therefore, I was just suggesting another place where you can hear the music on the internet: http://tunein.com/radio/K-EARTH-Classics-1011-s67165/

For the record, I want oldies back on WLS-FM or any other station for that matter.

Radioman: I agree with you on K-Earth Classics. If you haven't already done so, you might also want to check out Richbro radio, Radio Bop, Radio Bop 60s. WFIL, Hy Lit Radio, or streaming terrestial stations CKOC and WDJO. There are also old tapes of KXOK and WQAM running continuously on Live 365. Or....I can loan you my iPod, which has about 1200 oldies sprinkled with classic jingles (mostly PAMS) from WLS, WABC, KFWB, CHUM, WQAM, WOKY, WTIX, WIRL, and a few others.

This current pot of powdered potatoes at the AM is a complete disaster. I know lots of people have complained about the number of commercials over the years, but it seems as though they insist on inserting a few more. (Hey, at least WLS is much better off than WABC and KABC!)

While traffic on the 5s is alright with me, they need to can the announcements by the voice-over guy at the start of them. I already know this is "89 WLS traffic and weather first on the fives", you do not need to keep reminding me of that. Just give me the information, the stuff people actually care to hear.

Move Hannity to 9:00, and put in a local sports show from 6-9. Bring back the Top 5 at Five, and make it the usual news stories.

Also, put some QUALITY local/national programming on during the weekend hours. Even if it is just Saturday and Sunday mornings, it would be a total improvement from what they have on right now.

This reminds me of Ruppert Murdoch and Sam Zell ruining the Sun-Times and Tribune respectively.

Thanks for the heads up on the other stations Cyberdad. I will check them out. I also have many of those PAMS jingles. In addition I have lots of airchecks on my ipod, not just the Chicago guys, but many others around the country. If you're ever looking for any of those old shows just let me know. I may have what you're looking for.

Yes thanks to you both for alternatives to explore for oldies stations! And as far as jingles on the iPod go, no WLS collection is complete without the Anita Kerr gems!

Indeed. I have a few Anita Kerr jingles....including a "fake" Anita Kerr jingle from PAMS apparently....apparently from when they were pitching WLS/Sam Holbrook (or whoever) to buy the series 18 package. But I'd definitely like to get my hands on more Anita Kerr jingles....including the "personality" series.

And Radioman. Thanks for the offer. If and when you get the chance, I'd also be interested to get your opinion of the streams I suggested.

I have heard Rich bro radio and I like it. When I get a chance to check out the others I will pass along my thoughts. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Conventional radio has abandoned traditional oldies, but as has been mentioned you can find many of them on the Internet. For example, Bobby magic radio has been playing every song that charted from 1966 through 1976 in order. Right now(Saturday afternoon)they are in early 1972. Big hits followed by obscure songs. I'm glad us oldies geeks can find a station like this.

There is no shortage of great internet 60's stations..Rich Bro radio and Radio Bop were mentioned, also radio I0 60's and 70's, Rewound Radio, Pop Gold Radio, Tunedex memories, Top Shelf oldies, Atlantis Gold for British 60's hits, British 60's Radio, Music Master oldies, Philly Gold, Hy Lit radio and countless more.

I rarely listen to oldies/classic hits stations on regular radio. Too 70's and 80's centric and tight rotations. Much like WLS-FM, getting back to the original topic.

I'm 64..way,way out of the demo radio wants to reach. My favorite music is still the 60's..the music i grew up with. I'm glad there are choices.

Heard a mention of WIRL on many with ipod. Just rtn from that area, and happy to report WIRL 1290 in Peoria has switched from CWO to a 50's/60's oldie format. They also mentioned 102.7 FM, that must be a LP repeater, maybe they've increased power of that.

I still don't understand why WLS FM will not allow the DJ's to talk. They have the BEST DJ's in the country and their mikes are turned off. WHY???

I've noticed that Dick Biondi is talking more. At least he was last week.

they should save their money and get a college student who mispronounces the artists and groups, and has no idea they are playing the Greatest Hits Of Rock & Roll History... and that will probably happen next week....
