WLS-AM TO HAVE "REWOUND" DAY ON MEMORIAL DAY!

For those of us who grew up with The Big 89, or SuperCFL, we will "get it". It would be great if WMVP, the former WCFL, would do something similar.

Klunk, Steve King was also on BBM-FM. His (and Johnnie's) bio are on the wgnradio.com webssite. Check it out.

Re. whether non-radio geeks will get it --

Not sure that it matters. Memorial Day's kind of a throw-away day for talk radio. The full-time, key players have the day off. Talk stations retreat a lot more than music stations (in terms of firepower) when part-timers fill in. Listeners are, generally, in a different lifestyle mode on a holiday. And jumping out of format from time to time with something fun isn't a bad idea for any radio station (even WFMT gets that concept on New Year's Eve).

Kipper McGee's a pretty smart dude -- his station will sound fun on Monday in a way that'll probably be appealing to his target audience, even if they didn't grow up in Chicago, and he's generating some talk and buzz on what would normally be an off day.

I wonder how long my Audacity software will record the stream before it craps out. :)

WLS has added IBOC and dropped AM stereo during the day 4 weeks ago or so. Still AM stereo at nite when I presume IBOC is off.

OldiesCat,

ChgoDave was referring to the success of 94.7 against it's OWN previous formats--not other stations in the market.

Still- who cares? Since they compete against other stations in the market, the fact that they were 20th ranked doing rock vs. 19th ranked doing Oldies makes your point, well, pointless.

I let fellow IT geeks at my current job know..one of the IT techs in Little Rock, AR remembers when she fell asleep as a kid listening to WLS in the 60s and 70s...she is thrilled about the Rewind and plans to have it playing in her house all day Monday, so yes SOME non radio geeks will get it too (baby boomers more than anyone)

I use Audacity to record KJKK JACK FM out of DFW off their stream...I have 10-12 hr recordings in 44.1/16bit and it all came out fine...as long as you have the HD space and the stream keeps working. I set up AudioGrabber to record off the stream, since I DONT plan to be awake at 5am Monday......I will wake up later and be house hunting so I went the auto route.... and try to clip tracks from it (I did a test tonight and I was able to edit the file using Audacity and get rid of any dead spot in the track recording)....so I can xfer it later to CD...

BUT if anyone can record off air and provide edits later, that would be sooo cool! Just to hear the old "89 WLS" and Music Radio TOH will bring back memories of 24 years ago when I used to listen to WLS in AM Stereo driving across SE Texas with my Sony XRA 33 radio in the wide filter mode.....Gawd that was awesome (long live top40 AM...even though it doesnt anymore :(

It was for sale in the 1980s (80 till about 85/86). Few showed up on the actual market and I found mine at a store I would have NEVER thought would have it....paid about $230 for it...FM/AM stereo with all 4 modes decoder, narrow/wide filter and cassette. Also have a Metrocast AM stereo rcvr that decodes all 4 modes and then uses a FM modulator to feed it to a FM radio...nice small package...they show up on Ebay at $20 or so from time to time.

jeff davis 3-6pm

most of my memories of wls are actually jeff davis. he was the jock i heard the most. being i was in mississippi and could only catch it at night! so could anyone record the 3-6pm slot? i will be at work. i have a video tape set to record from 5-11 am. then i will get back home at about 8pm and i will record the 8-mid segment. but i will miss 11-8pm :(..help!!

Is their stream working?? I have tried most of the day to connect and nothing....DAMN I will be po'ed if I cant record the special!! I was really looking forward to it (while out house hunting)...

all 3 streams are working fine. i have it on the wm stream. it sounds the best. the worst is the real audio. its sounds horrible!

Cant get WM to work; it never connects!!!, but did get the MP3 stream working using Quicktime...audio records just fine so my AudioGrabber is set to start at 4:55 am and go until 10 mins past midnight....time to rock and roll!! (I never use RA.....since it has spyware in it...I quit using it years ago).

I was listening to the streaming here at work this morning at 5am -- heard the news and then it went dead. I went out to my Jeep and heard it on the radio. I wonder if they shut down the feed.

The Rewind is supposed to start at 5:00 AM Central Time, which is 6:00 Eastern Time.

However, right after the news, the stream completely dropped out!!!

Perhaps this is why (from the WLS web site).................

Those silences in which a clip is being played on-air but not on the audiostream are not a technical glitch. Those cuts feature union talent or copyrighted music that does not meet the legal criteria for Internet broadcast.

Have they totally cut out the internet stream because they can't or don't want to pay for playing copywrited music? I hope not!

I thought they were supposed to fill any internet deadspace with taped programming, or at the very least, a looped message explaining why we can't hear this on the stream.

I am depressed.

I hope that somebody in the Chicago area is recording WLS today. I'd really love to hear them .... unfortunately, their signal went away in Tampa after the sun came up.
