WLS-AM TO HAVE "REWOUND" DAY ON MEMORIAL DAY!

Great mix for a throwback to a day gone by... Talk about the "Top-40" days and a touch of the music that made it great... Only if we could have a few words with Gehron, Rook, Weber and some of the minds behind the radio speaker... This stuff was grand... At least for us radio-geeks and jocks of bygone eras...

Enjoyed every minute I could catch. As the song said, "you don't know what you've got till it's gone". I knew the first new year's eve with no WLS "time sweep" that we had lost a good thing, for good.
When I did the Sirius Elvis Radio thing from Graceland, I got to meet a lot of folks from Chicago, and I would tell them how I grew up way down in Mississippi, digging on WLS every night. They would say, "oh, WLS? It's still there"; but I would tell them you don't understand, it's not the same.
Thanks to whomever put the blood, sweat, and tears into making it happen. It was appreciated down here in Memphis.

TIME marches on!

Rock has moved to fm, and a 50kw blowtorch still has a great future in what they are doing.

That is for sure..... ;) "Ladies & Gentlemen...The TALK goes on!"....Dubble-You-El-Eess!

I haven't had a chance to listen to JRL today. Has he talked at all about the Rewind special on WLS?

Of all the blowtorch AM stations, I think the one that could pull off playing music again would be The Big 89.

We should start a letter writing Campaign to Citadel to bring it back for the next holiday !

Let all of america vote for the WLS REMIND

Hammando - As one born and raised 25 miles from Philadelphia and just starting my career at the time you mentioned, I was weaned on WFIL and WIBG (and WIP.)

As a fan of the genius of the late Jay Cook at WFIL, as well as Paul Drew and Jerry DelColliano over at WIBG, I would concur with your story about Landecker and the "longer and longer" Boogie Check at WIBG against "King" George Michael. I sure didn't see many people pull things past "Cookin'" Jay Cook, so, I wouldn't doubt this wonderful story whatsoever.

I just bet Jay (who I had the pleasure of knowing) is grinning right now just at the memory of some remembering those days. Great post!

im not gonna say which one but i just got this from one of the dj'd from memorial day :)

We had a blast doing it and I
suppose we'll be doing it again.

:)...hope hes right :)

Re: WLS-REWIND: How to hear it

According to R&R Street Talk:

Scoped Rewind highlights will be available this week at www.wlsam.com. The station is also donating the entire 18 hours to the Museum of Broadcast Communications and www.ReelRadio.com,

There will also be highlights at www.wlshistory.com as well.

Radio Videographer Art Vuolo shot a lot of video on Monday....that may pop up somewhere too! Check www.artvuolo.com for details soon.

Thanks for all the info and links. It was wonderful hearing those guys again. Radio as it should be. Radio as it could be again.

Are you talkin' to me?

After checking the various links and downloads already posted
in this thread...please advise of any site you may come across
with Monday night's Boogie Check. (Oooh ahhh!) :D

Hey Jay!!! Still in the midwest??

I caught most of the Rewind on the stream...missed the 1st 2 hrs (it quit right at 5am for some reason) and so didnt get the sign on of morning show :(
Landecker though, I got most of his show (the stream would drop music or change songs, etc at times!!! Not sure why)...
Especially Can I get an Eye Witness news and all the other things....GAWD he sounded great!! During Boogie Check,
one caller asked about AM Stereo and JRL made a crack about it being dead as satellite....and then said "Geesh, static out of 2 channels"......OOOHHHH I wanted to call him and tell him I USED to listen to him, static and all if present on my Sony AM Stereo car radio.....(and a lot of times, there was NO STATIC even in the wide filter mode)....Of course, that was in their Kahn days....DIdnt get a chance to listen to their CQUAM signal in a while....(and I have to ask, WHY would you do stereo on a TALK station?? IF IBUZ did become good, would that mandate music return to the AM band??? Hmmm)Oh well, anyway, the Rewind was great...I have to check and see how many hours I got on my main HD....the last 5-6 hrs I caught on my laptop using Audacity and the MP3 stream...playing it back sounds JUST like an AM station with no static......I like it ;)

BTW Max the transmitter dog says woof!!! (6 years since he walked up on me at the Irving site as a 10month "pup" and still acting like a puppy)

Don't be surprised if it DOES happen again come Labor Day weekend; Kevin Carter's column in this week's issue of R&R was devoted exclusively to that rewind show.

It's nice to know that one Larry Lujack is alive and well and living in Santa Fe, NM.

Hopefully they'll be able to bring Kris Erik Stevens on board next time.

I was slightly disappointed that many weren't there. Charlie Van Dyke to name one. I guess many had contractual issues.

Charlie Van Dyke is beyond a doubt one of the best voices EVER. But, you're right probably too busy with his contractual obligations...you know..."Now, from (insert city name), it's Channel (insert channel number), News, with (insert male anchor name), and (insert female anchor name), stormwatch weather with (insert weatherman name), and (insert sports guy's name) on sports. Channel (again, repeat channel number), News starts NOW!!!"

Hey, Charlie, you are the best!
