WLTS

A check of the FCC web site shows that the sale of WLTS from Forever to 2510 was finalized a week or two ago. According to the site, 94.5 still has the WLTS calls, but Forever has applied for them. Hey, what's this? 2510 has applied for a new set of calls. Hmmmmmmmm.

A check of Google shows the real story...

THE NEW WLTS

The Lane Technical High School broadcasting station, W L T S, has been entirely rebuilt and remodeled, and the new station is hitting the high spots in radio popularity. Letters of commendation from all parts of Chicago and from outside the city have been received. The average Lane Indian is already well-informed as to the station's semi-weekly program but any student who is interested in knowing what the pro-. gram will be, should look in any Tuesday or Friday newspaper and there it will be in black and white.

"Go, Lane, Go," that popular school song which is emblematic of Lane in all its glory, is meeting with such acclaim that hardly a program is put on the air without its being sung. The new staff of W L T S is becoming very popular with the radio listeners, especially George Burhop, tenor, who is getting special attention. One listener described him as a future operatic star.

wow, how far are they moving?

After reviewing the record before us, we believe the reallotment of Channel 287C1 from
Slidell to Kenner and the modification of Station WLTS-FM's license to specify Kenner as its
community of license results in a preferential arrangement of channels as required by the
Commission's procedures noted in Modification of FM and TV Authorizations to Specify a New
Community of License. In reaching this determination we compared the existing arrangement of
allotments with the proposed arrangement using the FM priorities set forth in Revision of FM
Assignment Policies and Procedures, 90 FCC 2d 88 (1982). In this instance, Kenner receive its first
local aural transmission service (3), and therefore is preferred over the retention of two transmission
services at Slidell which will continue to be served locally by AM Station WSLA. As stated in the
Notice, we recognize that Kenner is partially located within the New Orleans Urbanized Area.
However, petitioner is not proposing to relocate Station WLTS-FM's transmitter site, therefore, the
reallotment will not result in any new gain or loss areas, and the station will continue to provide
Slidell with city grade 70 dBu coverage.

Well, the difference to me is I'd want to do it to make a little cash out of the thing (even if Jack is a flash in the pan). Its cheap to run and would generate some kinda audience short term anyway; where-as we KNOW Smooth Jazz does not work in Happy Valley. Its too much of a specialized format.

Hmmm...let me toss another scenario out there. Again, no basis....jut random speculation. 2510 Sold their AM to Mangum already. Whose to say that 2510 won't take over 94.5, run it for a little while and offer to sell the stick to Magnum for the BUZZ? Buzz could broadcast on both frequencies 105.9 and 94.5 thus hitting the areas they do not hit as of yet and essentially NONE of the Forever/Galli stations are impacted tremendously seeing how the Buzz generates a very unique and different audience from the rest (although it may slice into QWK slightly I suppose)

Now thats a move that would make some sense to me. Not saying its what will happen...but sounds like a neat idea anyway

i enjoy smooth jazz. i will listen every time i am in state college...which is not much.

someone in state college needs to try a mainstream leaning adult alternative station.

it is good to vary things up...i enjoy variety. and a certain person commented about reading my posts on here...so i decided to go with a name to which that particular person could better relate. i think that name has been used enough. i'll pick another relatable name some other day.

Announcing the results of the pool:

Lite's switch from 94.5 to 99.5 happened at 6:00 p.m. tonight (Wed. 2/15).

Announcements on 94.5 say it will be the home of Smooth Jazz...and I guess they will continue the barker-ing until on-air announced changeover day 2/22.

Anybody here remember WOJZ with Smooth Jazz on 98.7?

Yep...crashed and burned rather quickly. (About a year if I remember well) I've been told that WSMO will be better marketed though. Will probably cut into a little of the WPSU crowd but will not be stellar by any means (but I do not think they expect it to be either).

Been told that its a format thats not served and they are answering the call.

I am sure some advertisers will dig it...background stuff they can turn on in their office place.

Curious about the New Lite too? How far reaching is that signal? Will it Hit Altoona for example? Altoona has been left without a real Lite and Easy since WFBG-FM became Froggy.

Seems like a very smart move on behalf of Forever to fill that gaping hole. Lite and Easy...not my cup of tea...but I know my MOM would love it...as would many middle aged women with $$$ to spend.

Stevie boy...I'd worry about your station...you seem to have enough on your plate to be concerned about...you have to have a strong cume or a strong TSL...and you have? When I looked up the word stellar in the dictionary...G101 wasn't there.
