WLW on XM - up and sounding good

WLW's ID and Alternate Programming

I hadn't been listening to the over-air top-hour news open all that closely, so I didn't know if it had a "WLW Cincinnati" in it (which would still function as a legal ID, even after the spoken one was already read). Up here, Cleveland's "Big One", WTAM, does the ID in the news open.

As mentioned, Sloan has to be available even if there's a Reds game, as games can get rained out. Or at least when there's a chance of a rainout. :D But if there's no weather, maybe they'll give him the night off.

Here's what's going on this afternoon, per their schedule:

----------

12:30-4PM THE CINCINNATI REDS @ NEW YORK YANKEES
700WLW’s Joe Nuxhall and Steve Stewart…LIVE from Tampa.

(West Virginia at Cincinnati basketball available on XM 173 and 1360 Homer)

----------

And sure enough, XM 173 is playing the Bearcats game feed from 1360 Homer...

Interestingly, the Reds/Yankees game is NOT being carried on any of XM's MLB channels, from either team's network. I don't know how many Spring Training games XM carries, though, and I know they've also got the World Baseball Classic in the rotation. There are other Spring Training games up this afternoon.

More WLW Alternate

After the UC game, XM 173 is running a best of Mike McConnell feed. I earlier thought it was a local "best of", but it appears to be from "The Weekend", though it doesn't sound like the same content that is running live. Maybe they're just not running exact to the clock, and started the tape at the beginning of the show's first hour on XM 173.

WLW is scheduling "The Weekend" for 6 PM tonight over-air.

Should we expect McConnell's "Weekend" to move from it's current XM channel (165, 166?) like Steve Sommers has?

Maybe not. "Weekend" is not in a set time slot on WLW, as far as I know. It moves around depending on WLW's sports schedule (same as it does here on WTAM/1100).

For example, today, they'll run it on WLW at 6 PM. The earlier airing on XM 173 was apparently to fill the hole between the end of the UC game and the end of the Reds game. When the Reds post-game was over, XM 173 moved over to Alan Cutler's sports talk show.

In fact, they broke into the "Weekend" airing with a funny little liner... "We now interrupt this program...for something BETTER." :D

Unlike "The Weekend", Steve Sommers' show probably doesn't get moved around on WLW, short of a very late west coast Reds game or two. And even then, WLW/173 could still pick up the live feed that wouldn't air on 700 AM, since he's feeding other stations.
