WLW's Saturday morning Mutual Fund Hour...what a buzz kill. How much longer?

Every time it comes on the air it irritates me to no end.

For unknown reasons D. Parks seems to think his is the only show that can devote any amount of time to a real topic worth listening to (such as school issues, trolley cars, crime). But once the ball starts rolling and you get 'into listening' they bring on that boring as hell mutual fund hour. (Except for Deters, he actually informed people)

Why?

It makes you turn it off and forget about radio. They don't even mention it in their 'upcoming lineup for the day'. Somehow they skip the 11-Noon hour.

Seems like this has been on for years. How long is its run going to last?

The sponsor pays very well for that show...so, unless I miss my guess, you're answer is: as long as the sponsor's checks keep cashing...

I think all Clear Channel news/talk stations are required to air that show. Every market that I know of with one carries it. That's why it's on WLW. They could put it on KRC, but they have Gary Sullivan on Saturday mornings.

The Mutual Fund Show airs on time purchased from Clear Channel by The Mutual Fund Store—a national franchised network of mutual fund shills. There is a Cincinnati broker, but also offices in many other large cities. IIRC, the program originates from the "Kenwood Corral" [WLW] and is distributed to the other CC stations.

MONEY TALKS [especially at Clear Channel] ;)

At least it fits into the format, unlike the overnight shilling on 1530.

OMG! WHERE'S the "dislike" button on the Reply menu? 'I Guess R-I's delightful selection of emoticons will have to suffice...

:D :-[ :( ::)

Actually, in a morose way, that overnight shilling may fit the 1530 format: Bengals fans curse the team, get drunk at game, and get saved later that night!

Now... Why do I get this chilling suspicion that the good Brother's brokerage agreement with WCKY *might* represent a significant chunk of 1530's daily revenue? As I opined earlier...

If it's required to run the show and it brings in money, not much for WLW to do. However, it could be aired at an earlier hour. I think many either change the station or don't listen to it closely.

Someone affiliated with the show must have run amok on Wikipedia, I remember every article on a Clear Channel talk station would mention the Mutual Fund Show in the first section. I think Wiki caught on eventually, I don't see that much anymore.

That godawful show does NOT originate out of Kenwood. It emanates from Kansas City and they use Westwood One to syndicate it.

I recalled reading this about two years ago at Wikipedia:

"WLW airs a nearly entirely locally-produced talk format, and is the flagship station for the nationally syndicated shows The Mutual Fund Show with Adam Bold, America's Trucking Network (formerly The Truckin' Bozo), a popular nationwide, overnight program especially for truckers; and Live on Sunday Night with Bill Cunningham."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WLW

Might the submission been an error, or has the program's origination changed?

I deleted the Adam Bold flagship thing on Wikipedia.

He mentions all the time he's coming to you from Kansas City on the radio show...

You just made the point posed by brian65 when he originated this thread! As I type this, I'm enjoying Gary Jeff Walker, as I do nearly every Saturday morning commencing with my 5:30AM clock radio kick-off. Later, I try to grab a portable or listen in the car to catch "The Boss" dabbling behind the mic on 700WLW. I can recall a two-year-old Wikipedia error, but I've NEVER heard Adam Bold[ly] proclaim that he's shilling from K.C. WHY? The iPod is playin'... BUZZ-KILL!

Apparently the people behing the show do their research, and find the strongest station in the market to broadcast the show. In Lexington, they use WVLK over Clear Channel's WLAP.

I'm starting a new show to compete with Adam Bold, called The Pari-mutual Fund Store. I will. show you how to make more money by betting on horse racing than by buying mutual funds. It will be broadcast live from the Lebanon Raceway. All I need now is a sponsor and some really idiotic callers. :p

LOL THats just hillarious Tanksback. i may just have to listen

When I mentioned this show in the blog, and noted it as paid programming, I got a rather stern E-mail from Mr. Bold...he proclaimed it was not an infomercial.

We argued back and forth for a few E-mails, and he did not respond when I suggested that he got the show on the air for large time buys on the various CC stations which run it.

There's no way a bunch of major news/talk stations would carry that show if they weren't directly making money off of it from the producer(s).

WTAM/1100 carries it at noon on Saturday.

If there wasn't a ton of cash involved, Darryl Parks's Saturday show on WLW would still be 9-noon. There was enough cash to have it on WLW, not WKRC.
