WLW's Saturday morning Mutual Fund Hour...what a buzz kill. How much longer?

Adam Bold can claim it's not an infomercial because he doesn't steer every caller to use his service. But for all intents and purposes it IS a one-hour PAID commercial for his business....and the fact he PAYS A LOT is the only reason it's on 700, 840, 610 and other CC stations around the country.

Exactly, and that's exactly where he stopped arguing with me on it. :D

Buy huge spot loads at great prices, get a radio show free! ;) My point with Adam was that if he didn't write big checks for spots, stations would not independently decide to run his radio show, and he knows it.

I never hear any 'Spots' for his show on WLW.

In fact, when they mention the Saturday line-up, they just ignore the 11-noon slot.

You would think that if the program was a legitimate one it would be mentioned when they do the spots promoting what's going to be on on Saturday.

They skip it.

And before Parks ends his show he never mentions it. It's as if that hour doesn't exist.

Is it just me, or do others get a "Warning Will Robiunson" feeling when this guy comes on the air? Maybe it's the fast talking disclosures he reads to keep his "advice" legal.

I invest in Serta. Everyone should have a good mattress of their own choosing! :)

KyDXIn: Then YOU don't need a Serta-fied investment counselor. You are obviously a mad but brilliant investor on your own! Congratulations, you are scam proof!

Interesting find in the USPTO.GOV database. "The Mutual Fund Show" is a registered mark. 2002 and most recently:
Word Mark THE MUTUAL FUND SHOW
Goods and Services IC 041. US 100 101 107. G & S: Entertainment services in the nature of an ongoing program in the field of mutual funds and financial advice broadcast over radio and the Internet. FIRST USE: 20010600. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 20010600
Registration Number 4044724
Registration Date October 25, 2011
Owner (REGISTRANT) TMFS Holdings, LLC LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY DELAWARE Suite 220 7301 College Blvd. Overland Park KANSAS 66210

So can anyone tell me why this isn't a "paid commercial" when, even his website says:

Prior to the radio show, I created The Mutual Fund Store®, an independent, fee-based advisory service firm which helps people in all income brackets build wealth. My role for clients of The Mutual Fund Store—developing recommendations for their investments—is a perfect complement to what I do on the radio show: I get to help people achieve their investment goals.

The name of the business is the same as the show. I don't think it passes the smell test.

Oh, I agree.

Mr. Bold, in our E-mail exchange, strongly took me to task for calling the show "an infomercial" in one of my blog posts.

It would appear that it is what I surmised - a throw in for the fact that he's spending a boatload of money for commercials for his store on the various Clear Channel (and other) stations. "I'll buy a lot of spots, but I want a show" sort of thing.

That doesn't (perhaps) technically make it a "paid program", but it's definitely "pay to play". He shows up with no money, he gets no Saturday weekly show.

That godawful show does NOT originate out of Kenwood. It emanates from Kansas City and they use Westwood One to syndicate it.

I recalled reading this about two years ago at Wikipedia:

"WLW airs a nearly entirely locally-produced talk format, and is the flagship station for the nationally syndicated shows The Mutual Fund Show with Adam Bold, America's Trucking Network (formerly The Truckin' Bozo), a popular nationwide, overnight program especially for truckers; and Live on Sunday Night with Bill Cunningham."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WLW

Might the submission been an error, or has the program's origination changed?

Puhlease. Wikipedia is not a source.

Maybe the stations like airing it in the middle of the day.

It gives them time to step back, wash out coffee mugs, clean out the leftovers in the fridge, and spray clean the top of their desks.

It's 11:01 and I just turned off WLW when that infomercial came on. I wonder if they notice a drop off in the ratings of the noon show because they lost so many listeners between 11 and 12. of course, if it's Dan Carroll, the question is moot anyway.
