WMEE MUSIC

I've been DYING to say this SOMEWHERE:

YOU ARE CORRECT SIR!!! (think Ed McMahon...)

This was also about the time, I think, that WFBQ came after them for the WFWQ use of "95Q"... I could be wrong.

I've always thought of Johnny's producer, Fred De Cordova, when I hear "You are correct, sir!"

We Now Return To Our Regularly Scheduled Topic, Kinda...When did WMEE overtake WOWO in the ratings? As I remember, MEE had most of the kids in fairly quick order when they debuted on 1380 in the early 70s, but it took a decade or so for them to finally beat the Mighty 1190.

First, they killed WLYV. WLYV went country and 1380, as WQHK killed them again. I don't know when WMEE beat WOWO, love to find out. I don't remember the exact story on 95Q becoming WAJI, I had heard it being some book identification issue which didn't totally make sense. Gotta think in its brief CHR incarnation they had to cause at least a few sleepless nights on Maples Rd.

Although I didn't have access to the ratings when I worked near Fort Wayne in the late 70s and early 80s, the station sure affected the market I was in. I think the first blast to the armor came when Price Communications paid $8-million for the frequency in 81 or 82, losing that "luster" of being "Group W, Westinghouse Broadcasting."
Jay Gould also left his Ag Director post around then I believe.

(Hope the quote thingy works this time)

Ah, Price Communications, radio's first Evil Empire. They gutted WOWO's newsroom, and even lost the Komets for a year (to WBTU, believe it or not).

I actually don't remember the Komets being gone but remember about the minute Price took over they added a block of fire n brimstone preaching late nights.

Geez Louise, I TOTALLY FORGOT that year the K's were on BTU.
Abut (Canadian for 'about') the only GOOD thing was hockey in "sorta" stereo.

I think about that time the K's were taken into the hole by (insert name here) and the Frankes came in to take Komet hockey to it's (current) glory. Another cup in '09 boys??

As far as when MEE got WOWO's goat, I'm thinking about '80, maybe. Again, I was just a one-eyed transmitter bashin' hopeful skoolkid then...

'MEE may have been #1 in various dayparts previous, but it took Sievers' retirement from WOWO for 'MEE to go to #1 overall...that was Fall '83. WOWO's return to #1 didn't happen for another 18 years (Fall '01).
