CFL Radio news is reporting that http://www.cflradio.net/what's_news.htm
Radio and Records is reporting that WMEL-AM 920 in Melbourne, has been sold to Divine Mercy Communications Inc. Plans call for a Catholic radio format to replace the news/talk station.

It is another station that is gone that had some local shows. and that is now gone.

John Harper's the owner and has been looking to sell it for a long time. Crappy signal, crappy programming other than the big-name syndicated stuff. Horrid local stuff. 65+ year-olds will be devastated. Wouldn't be surprised if crosstown CC WMMB-AM picks up Hannity and Savage.

John Harper, the FORMER owner was never looking to sell...he had many offers that he turned down...now, due to his horrible mismanagement over the years...it went into receivership to pay his creditors...

ANYONE HERE REMEMBER UNDERGROUND RADIO? AFTER THAT WENT OFF THE AIR, THAT STATION PRETTY MUCH WENT DOWN HILL. AND WMMB GETTING HANITY AND ALL THEM? WOULDN'T SUPRISE ME. JUS

UnderGround radio was great, Wasn't it! Anyway, I talked to the owner John Harper and he says the station will move to AM 1300 in the coming weeks. It will become the Talk to Me Station, AM 1300 WMEL. Hannity, Savage and the rest of the crew will remain on board. New frequency same station! At least Brevard will remain to have one community based and truly local talk radio station.

good for him. that's excelent to hear. maybe he'll get some good stuff on there? maybe ugr? probably not but it was a good thought.

This article was in the Florida Today on Thursday January 10, 2008 - Looks like it is indeed sold! Congratulations !

WMEL moving on up
WMEL-AM (920) is soon to be no more. Going bye-bye. Adios.
Well, fear not fans of conservative talksters Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity. WMEL is moving up the dial to 1300,
a move that could possibly start Monday, WMEL President John Harper said.
Since the late '60s, Melbourne-based WMEL has claimed the 920 spot on the dial.
"We will be moving the entire facility to Cocoa," Harper said.

WMEL's move to 1300 will be a good one. Wider coverage, all new equipment, all good things. The network shows will move and from what I hear most of the local shows will move too.

As for Underground Radio, it would be good to hear Mike Murrillo on the radio in Brevard again. He could even bring Ryan with him too, that would be good. The two of them could do a great show together.

Not so sure about all of the shows moving with WMEL to 1300... Check out crosstown WMMB's intro to their site. The face on the graphic is scrambled, but I'm pretty sure that's Hannity. What's the deal with that?

Not sure this is a good move for MEL 1300 signal in not the best for South Brevard, and forget about night coverage, You need to be next to the transmitter to hear it at night.

Doesn't matter....You can't beat the free publicity from the State all over Central FL. they get with those "TOURIST INFO. TUNE TO 13OO AM" that station still gets!!

Yup, same for 1680. They still have a few signs up all over I-4. Wonder what tourists must be thinking when they see those signs and tune over to hear what is actually there.

and how will these tourists be getting arbitron diaries to fill out?

Looks like I was right about Hannity... http://floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080117/COLUMNISTS0108/801170307/1080/life

AM rivals sending mixed signals
BY BREUSE HICKMAN

Last week, "Airwaves" reported Melbourne radio station WMEL-AM (920) was moving up the street to a Cocoa location where it would become WMEL-AM (1300) in March. Officials said the station would hold on to its syndicated, conservative talk programming, including Sean Hannity's show.

That came as a surprise to Ken Holiday, operations director of talk competitor WMMB-AM (1240), which is owned by Clear Channel.

"I've got a contract in front of me that says we're getting Hannity the day they (WMEL) make the switch," Holiday told "Airwaves."

i saw that graphic...i couldn't tell that it was definitely Hannity...and you were very sure of it!...hmm...

sounds like station employee to me...i mean, im not saying YOU made that graphic...but...you were calling that a week before the mighty Breuse Hickman...

inside scoop or something? or could be a mega-fan of MMB?

As someone who watches and listens to Hannity on TV and radio, it wasn't hard to figure out that it was him in that graphic on their site, which I saw about a week before that column came out. Didn't seem like they were being too secretive about the move. I guess I'm a fan of WMMB in as much as I listen to Bill Mick and Glenn Beck a lot. Every once in a while I'll tune in for Rush or Laura Ingram.

But this brings up an interesting topic (which might be its own thread): of the posters on these forums, how many people would actually give out "inside information"? If I had some info on the station I worked at, I sure as hell wouldn't be talking about it on a site where some of my competitors probably frequent. If I knew something about a competitor's station, I wouldn't hesitate to bring it up, especially if it's negative news. I don't know...I enjoy the back and forth and speculation and analysis that goes on here and that's great, but I wouldn't cough up inside scoops just for the sake of an interesting thread.
