WMEX

So the big question is if this format change to RadioQ is actually happing or not if L&J Media still own the station, even under the new name.

according to scott fybush, it is happening.. L & J do own it, under the new name, thats been made clear too

What's wrong with sharing the info on the thread? What the news is an exculive? That cat is out of the bag!
so when is the switch?
The date is not yet known.

But the rest of the content is behind a paywall from one of this site's administrators. Sharing any paywalled content here is a violation of this site's rules and will result in a permanent banning.

Actually, this week's newsletter is free for all to read.

But when you do, if you actually read what I wrote, I said it's still not even clear that it *is* happening, never mind when.

All we have so far is a website under construction, and who knows if it's just something built for speculative purposes or not.

And @SomeRadioGuy, there is STILL no prize for posting quickly or prolifically here. Better to post a little less but with more care to comprehension (and spelling) so we don't have to guess what it is you're trying to say, and so you're not guessing at what I wrote.

Fair enough.....

That website is beyond under constrution - it's been live at one point and complete minus the streaming (with up to date podcasts)...plus the facebook page, plus the facebook post in a Provincetown facebook group about the channel, and looking for adverters....sounds more than just speculative...which confuses the whole situation. Plus Larry Justice has hinted at "something going on" not related to this...but i'm not even sure what his stake or invovlement with WMEX is. For that matter, didn't Tyler Nye back out of the sale? Just what the heck is going on over there. And as I've suggesed, there's no way they'd do better than the current .3 they are getting with this new format, unless they are focusing on the streaming/web and the station is just for show. The RadioQ format is the most niche format I've ever heard of...

Atleast True Oldies Channel has a national streaming channel - who's playlist mirrors (with some delay) WMEX...but the lost of a local Oldies/70's channel is sad, really.

Here's how this could work...

While having a limited AM/FM signal gives it prestige, they need to promote an app, website, and streaming platforms at the forefront, with the signals secondary.

LGBTQ businesses heavily advertise and promote themselves within the community. Just open a copy of Bay Windows, Boston Spirit, or the Rainbow Times. They are full of businesses advertising. Use those outlets and place full page ads promoting Radio Q. while meeting and introducing themselves to every LGBTQ owned/friendly business to gather support and advertisers. And of course, be there at community events and gatherings.

Programming needs to offer as much local content as possible.A music format similar to KGAY should be considered, and hopefully not CCM. Otherwise the religious music and programs will not go over well within the LGBTQ community. In fact, this would only alienate your audience, and cause controversy. I can only imagine the backlash as a result.

Of course, this requires some money, time involved, and the networking required. And hopefully they will have at least a small staff to help get this off the ground. I think having the money to back this up will be the deciding factor as far as success.

Nope, not going to work...... its too niche of a format on too cruddy of a signal in an area that isnt overly gay and theyd have o spend more than they should to promote things.

and the CCM thing? As brught up earlier, its just a cpy and paste of Ty;er Nye 's website from stations down south..

Theyd be better off ding 60s 70s and 80s with a FOCUSED playlist then this radioQ stuff... and 60s 70s 80s with a fcused play list is still a stretched.

KGAY works because of where it is and what they do works because of that. you couldnt replciate that anywhere else but MAYBE provnicetown and key west

And unless they have a gay program director, its just going to be radio that stereotypes what lgbt folks are want and listen to.

Andy Cohen is gay and has a channel on SiriusXM. His music checks all the boxes: disco, uptempo beat-driven pop, and don't forget Cher. Has anyone ever tried to program specifically for an LGBT audience and play country, hard rock, soft AC or classical?

Where are these websites? Can you provide a link?

Your're still stuck in an AM/FM only mindset. The world has moved beyond that to streaming platforms. If all you promote is your signal, then I wouldn't bother starting up any new radio station these days. If you go back and read my first paragraph, you'll see that an app/website, streaming platforms will need to be focused on primarily. Heck, I wouldn't even bother with broadcast radio AT ALL!

thestarfm.com but it doesn't seem to work and it was discussed earlier in this thread

No i'm not AM and FM only, shows that you dont know a ton about.... im the first one to push streaming an apps.. did it when i was involved in a station sale in pennsylvania... i was the first one to push getting an app and streaming. ive been big into social media for stations.

Im telling you as someone who this station would allegedly be targetting if i lived in the coverage area, i wouldn't be listening, neither would may others, even online and its a bigger disaster than the 60s 70s 80s music format they had previously

Well, I happen to also be a member of the LGBTQ community. I'm a private person and just don't advertise it on a public forum like this, and KGAY is my favorite radio station to listen to via streaming. Believe me KGAY, which is in Palm Springs is very well known here in the San Diego gay community.
