WMHX FM/HD Flipped to 90's/CHR

Certainly a female focus. My guess is this station will become a 20ish-30ish female favorite. Long term, it'll be interesting if this station impacts Hot or Kiss in Harrisburg. And LAN elsewhere. Signal wise, I think this station becomes a huge problem for Hot.

Big winner from this move has to be WSOX. Although the #s for Mix were small in York and lancaster, based on the 12 plus we get to see, SOX is bound to gain from this move. Perhaps pick up some #s in Harrisburg as well.

However, in York with all the billboards all over the place, Peak could gain from this switch as well.

First Song
Counting Crows "Mr Jones"

According to their Facebook page (link above), the first song was Warrant's "Cherry Pie."

Ok, so I turn on this station....and what's the first song I hear? Ricky Martin - Livin' la Vida Loca...

No thanks!

I'd be curious to hear what the target of the station feels....WOMEN in their 20s and 30s....because this is CLEARLY who this station is after. Sorry Classic Rock guys----you'll have to look elsewhere now....98.5 the Peak or for those in Lancaster WMGK.

Not sure about that, they've got a broad music catalog. Pearl Jam's "Even Flow" is playing right now...

Here's a sampling from the past 1.5 hours or so:

Sir Mix-a-Lot
3 Doors Down
Bon Jovi (80s - Bad Medicine)
Dogs Eye View
Dirty Vegas
Sublime
Coolio
B52s (80s - Love Shack))
Gin Blossoms
Dr. Dre
Shakira

Not sure what the demo is here yet

Female target 25-44. Don't see a whole lot of white guys shaking their butts to Sir Mix Alot or Dr Dre.

Women in the 90s loved Pearl Jam and Dave Mathews. Why this works.

Oh, the other thing that probably has some folks excited....no DJs.

I expect talent will be added over time. Still can't believe you can build an audience long term without talent.

But when it happens, I expect you'll hear some new voices.

Does their so-called target audience even listen to radio anymore? Last I checked, every 25 to 35 year old was listening to an I-Pod or the internet. What a waste. I thought Mix was doing fairly well. In almost every Harrisburg area business I stopped in who wasn't playing some satellite service and was using regular radio, Mix was the station I heard on. It sounded good.

Here's a thought---put something on terrestrial radio that appeals to that age group and perhaps they'll listen to terrestrial radio again.
I think another key will be keeping the spot load pretty low. Are you suggesting that radio should just raise the white flag over this generation?

MIX was not performing that well in the ratings anywhere. Doesn't mean it was a bad sounding radio station..it wasn't.
Could it have used some more marketing? Definitely. But in this bad economy, stations answering to Wall Street aren't spending a whole lot of money to promote themselves. And smaller staffs make it more difficult to do what some refer to as "campaigning" to try to push the Arbitron needle. The bad economy has also affected sales. Cool Pop failed on this frequency and ultimately MIX did as well.

Perhaps Planet 1067 will be the answer.

And if you are an older listener, you're probably not happy because you just lost a choice on the dial. Get ready..you're probably going to lose some more. Sorry but it's true.
