speaking of adult standards , it would be nice if 102.3 fm , which was wmid-fm , would go back to doing the adult standard thing , like they did in the real early 2000's ... it was a national simulcasted feed ...the lovers of this type format in the a.c. area now only have a.m. stations for this
Agreed! WMID-FM (now WAIV) really serves no purpose to the market that I can see. Sure it may fill in some nulls here and there but for "variety purposes" your suggestion is a decent one. If anything the previous format that you mentioned is a Westwood One product that presents itself in a "Soft AC" manner. In an effort to sound more "modern" the station dumped most of the standards to offer its affiliate stations a more marketable and sellable product by lowering the demographic. I can remember many a time vacationing in Wildwood and pulling that WMID-AM signal from AC and then walking all over Cape May and listening to ALL the stores and shoppes that had WMID-FM 102.3 tuned in. If its sells it stays, if it don't its a goner...sad but true! If you're a fan of the format and are further up the coast say mid-Ocean County you can still hear the format that you speak of in its current day form on WOBM-AM 1160. Jeff Rollins, Chick Watkins, Ed Brand, Mark Haden and some new-comers are still onboard playing some of the great songs from the 50's through today (mainly Norah Jones and Michael Buble). I am by NO means their target demographic but I find the format refreshing and mellowing infact its cheaper than prescription meds.
Think anyone at Equity is listening?? If they want to present the format locally, Call Me I'm Available
