I am now listening to this station through a 3,000 computer and 2,000 stereo system, I cannot believe the CD stereo quality and separation, its like nothing I ever heard with oldies. I drove aways to get into the range of the AM signal and its horrible compared to the internet feed. What system are they using and why such a great sound on the internet. Also, why are they still using the 1230 frequency I thought they went back to Standards....

WCMC is Standards. They just mention it on 1340 in liners to cross promote. Pretty smart actually.

Totally agree with Sam. WMID is a superb terrestial station with a decent quality stream. But Hy Lit Radio's sound quality blows it away.

(Same can be said for WDJO and a couple of other oldies streams.)

Thanks; glad you like it. Old analog processing and plenty of stereo reverb.

WCMC is no longer standards. Guess you did not get the MEMO. Its been over a year that the network modified its format to more of a Soft A/C Oldies format, much to the disatisfaction of its listeners.

I believe your label of the format is much closer than mine. But there's not much of any Contemporary, Adult or otherwise. So I called it Standards. How 'bout M.O.R.? It's nice they have mornings local and live.

speaking of adult standards , it would be nice if 102.3 fm , which was wmid-fm , would go back to doing the adult standard thing , like they did in the real early 2000's ... it was a national simulcasted feed ...the lovers of this type format in the a.c. area now only have a.m. stations for this

Agreed! WMID-FM (now WAIV) really serves no purpose to the market that I can see. Sure it may fill in some nulls here and there but for "variety purposes" your suggestion is a decent one. If anything the previous format that you mentioned is a Westwood One product that presents itself in a "Soft AC" manner. In an effort to sound more "modern" the station dumped most of the standards to offer its affiliate stations a more marketable and sellable product by lowering the demographic. I can remember many a time vacationing in Wildwood and pulling that WMID-AM signal from AC and then walking all over Cape May and listening to ALL the stores and shoppes that had WMID-FM 102.3 tuned in. If its sells it stays, if it don't its a goner...sad but true! If you're a fan of the format and are further up the coast say mid-Ocean County you can still hear the format that you speak of in its current day form on WOBM-AM 1160. Jeff Rollins, Chick Watkins, Ed Brand, Mark Haden and some new-comers are still onboard playing some of the great songs from the 50's through today (mainly Norah Jones and Michael Buble). I am by NO means their target demographic but I find the format refreshing and mellowing infact its cheaper than prescription meds.

Think anyone at Equity is listening?? If they want to present the format locally, Call Me I'm Available ;)

MikeF the guru of processing strikes again!

i actually miss when 102.3 was WSAX. people on here trashed it saying things like it had 5 listeners, but there was hardly a store i went into in the historic district of Cape May that WASN'T playing WSAX. i'm not a huge huge fan of smooth jazz, but it does make a nice compliment to the seashore. and they were using the jones satellite format which is far better than the consulted crap on stations like WJJZ.

..........thanks radio411 for the dynamite posting !!! i liked the westwood one format for a change-up in music style , myself...however , my mom , whom is much older , lives in mathews virginia , ( zip code 23109 ) and she lost her only adult contemporary station , "windy 105" ... 104.9 .... i can only find a super weak a.m. radio signal for her , around roughly (only) 580 khz from maryland shore area... any ideas of any signals closer to her , either a.m. or f.m. for her ? mathews , va. is basically in the gloucester \ tappahannock area

....this , too , was truly better than the simulcasted crap they're doing now....plus , i remember wsax , also , now...i used to say : "hmmm...not the usual wjjz (106.1 back then) jazz stuff"

Your Welcome!! Did some quick checking and as you stated there really aren't too many choices on the Eastern Shores of VA for Easy Listening/Nostalgia formats but there are a couple of fringe stations that may just make it into the Mathews area:

WMBG (Daytime Only @ 500W) 740AM in Williamsburg
WJOI (627W with a slight null in your direction) 1230AM in Norfolk

Aside from that there really isn't much you can do except maybe scan the dial close to a window that faces the east and see if you can pick up a signal shooting up or down the coast.

Hope that helps...somewhat atleast

:)

Did I miss something? WCMC live and local in AM drive?

ya missed something. AM Drive is the only live/local segment of the day. Except for a live/local retirement investment show on Saturday, the rest is Satellite & Phils & infomercials.

WMID-FM should really give some consideration to returning to the Dial Global adult standards format. If the reason they dropped it was because its perceived audience is too old, they'd be surprised by the playlist lately... soft AC staples such as Manilow and Celine Dion as well as light rock hits like "Foolish Heart" by Steve Perry and "Kokomo" by the Beach Boys, and the new standards interpretations of today (Rod Stewart, Michael Buble). Yet they differ from a run-of-the-mill AC by not abandoning Sinatra, Mathis and Como, and the MOR hits of the '50s & '60s. This could be the default station for retirees in Ocean City and Cape May, left disenfranchised with the departure of WRDR.

I wonder if you're referring to WGOP 540 in Pocomoke City.

Since WMBG is daytime only, it would be interesting to see if Toronto's standards station CHWO makes it down there at night.

In my day we called that "chickenrock"; it was not considered a viable format.

Am I missing something here?
