WNIV 970 AM and WLTA 1400 AM signal issues

I noticed tonight (10/1) that 970 AM WNIV in Atlanta was off the air. They typically power down to a "flee power" level of 39 watts, but I can typically still receive the signal at my location 1.5 miles away from the WNIV Cheshire Bridge tower location. Tonight the 970 signal was no where to be found except their stream on-line.

Ironically, that opened up the frequency for 970 WGTK in Lousville, Kentucky to come in. Another Salem Communications station.

Up in Alpharetta, WLTA, the 1400 AM full time simulcast station for WNIV, seems to be putting out sideband spurs at +/- 120 kHz from 1400 kHz, landing at 1520 and 1280 kHz. The WLTA interference issue is not really a problem except very locally around their Kimball Bridge tower location since the main signal is only 1000 watts.

Wonder what transmitter they run on 1400, some of the mid 70's transmitters are often noted for being a bit "wide". Or it could be rcvr generated as well.

I don't know. The 1400 kHz WLTA signal seemed to develop the spur problem within the last several weeks.

Anyway, today (10/2) WLTA was off the air. Perhaps to finally correct the problem?

They installed a Gates1 back when Bruce Maduri owned the station.
Time for the "big blue caps" party at 1400.
(For the unwashed.....this transmitter has some large, blue capacitors which go bad after 7-8 years. When they do.....Katie bar the door 'cause lot's of nasty stuff can happen.)

The night time "hum" on NIV is so prevalent that I now rely on it to lull me to sleep. Works like a charm!

As long as the signal on WNIV don't go down from 1-1:30PM, I'm good. That's when my show "Enduring Truth" comes on. 2 BIG thumbs up to the PM who decided to get this show.
