I'd rather do Spanish over Hiphop. At least I can understand what the Spanish folk are saying.

Nope I am just a lowly media director who spends a few million in ATL. The kind of guy they want to make sure doesnt pull his investment with the station. They said the show is coming in from out of market and will be more like the old morning X with edge but not abrasive to women.

Is is possible to have edge without being abrasive to women? I just can't imagine it.

and does anyone have any recordings of the Morning X? Never heard it, am curious as to what it was like...

One characteristic of the old MorningX that made it a success was that they didn't laugh at there own jokes. They had 3 stooge type personality interaction, Leslie, Jimmy and Barnes were the respective Larry, Curley and Moe. With that mix they could each be themselves in normal discussion and it was compelling. The kiss of death was when they decided to create edge. They replaced the critical Moe (Barnes) and starting promoting whiny sounding personalites like Crash and Toucher. During the death throw period, forced laughter was common, it seemed like someone was in the studio with a gun pointed at them directing them to be edgy and funny.

The downslide started a couple of years before Toucher then really hit a low after Rich left. Their jump the shark moment for me was when they faked the hey look some old loyal listener left us a pile of cash let's give it away to the listeners. That marked the first time they did a call and win some money promo. Prior their promos were a little better put together. Leslie once said in an article prior to that that they don't do give money away promos. When that changed they seemed just a little more desperate.

It is no different for the Regular Guys. The firing and losing southside shirley took the wind out of their sails. It just isn't the same show it once was.

What happened to 99x is simple: once they had competition they were found out. Five years ago they pissed off most of the Alt Rock community with their smugness and ratings boasting and it was all because they spent more money on marketing, internet, talent, etc. than anyone else could afford. Now look at them when they have to play by everyone elses rules.
