If they were to honor the wish to continue to serve Gaffney, then I doubt any large corporation is going to want it.
The proposal to change COL was opposed by someone outside of radio who doesn't like FCC policy which allowed small town stations to move to larger markets. When the FCC once again allowed Longley Rice, alternative methods to demonstrate signal strength, WAGI was able to move to the Dallas NC Tower farm without a city of license (COL) change.
I remember when the COL was supposed to change to Bessemer City.
I believe it was only for purposes of the CP to move their transmitter to Dallas NC.
Once they moved they were able to keep the COL as Gaffney, since the new transmitter was still in Gaffney's city-grade contour.
BTW the old WAGI (now WZZQ) studio on Providence Rd in Gaffney still has "100,000 watt 105.3 WAGI-FM" on their building
