WNOX dropping "W" from logo? Shocking development

A few weeks ago, the big discussion topic was "Who gets the WNOX calls when Brantley crosses the street?"

This topic was apparently settled, as evidenced by 98.7's dropping of the calls on the air and their web site, plus their new billboards did not use WNOX.

So, despite winning that battle, Brantley has debuted the new 100.3 van with "NOX" prominently displayed in a classy new, round logo! Could he be dropping the "W," except on the legal ids, so the station will become known as NOX!

How honestly gosh-awful!

First of all, they've thrown out the number one rule in branding: Stick to one logo. Vary it in limiting degrees, sure, but the van definitely has two different logos on it.

But why, why would they switch the brand from WNOX to NOX? What is this NOX? Is it like LOX? Can you eat it with a FOX? Is it short for NOXzema? Are they from the school of hard NOX?

Sure, and it would be better if they were a Rock Station. Then their slogan could be NOX ROX!

Now I expect to see a mascot soon named NOXY.

This way, Ed doesn't have to worry about pronouncing the 'W'.

Any truth to rumor that WNOX 100.3 is going to use an ORANGE FROG for the station mascot? Highly visable during the day and night for remotes etc. and UT games. I understand that Your Dave Young came up with the idea.
 
Orange covers UT sports and stays true to the Gulf colors; regardless of the rf contours. Speaking of 100.3 NOX, their new audio ROX!

If they do start calling the station "NOX" it will be just another blunder in a long line of blunders in such a short, short time.

Someone needs to take helm before it hits the rocks in an ugly and laughable manner.

You ain't kiddin'! They've must have lost their minds.... Just forget the call letters...they're only
heritage. WNOX is only Tennessee's first radio station...that's all...

I've been whelmed a few times.
 
As and old timer, 100.3 is WOKI, 990 is WNOX, 98.7 is WXVO, 97.5 is WEZK, 1240/103.5 is WBIR AM-FM, 102.1 is WSEV-FM and the list goes on, the "legendary" call signs are not so legendary when they depart their original facility.
 
#1. What do the texting addicts use for Knoxville. If you drop the silent “K” in Knoxville then NOX works. I really do not know. I do not text or instant message. I find both annoying. I realize I am in the minority.

#2. If PPM comes to Knoxville, the only real use for a set of call letters (except for legal FCC stuff) is when the agency buyer makes an order.

The audience listening to shows like Ed & Bob are at least TWO generations away from the "texting addict" generation.

But in response to your question, I don't know either. Looks like we're both in the same minority.
 
This is East Tennessee. Even upscale listeners will accept a pronunciation of "Dubey" if delivered with pride and/or confidence.

And the 'N' may then be pronounced as two syllables.
