WOCN and WKPE (Cape Cod) to switch frequencies tomorrow

Well, that just doesn't make sense.........ok, let's say that the Cape has an older listening audience than here on the mainland..............you've got one station that can only be heard on the Cape, and another that can be heard up to Boston...........if the older listeners are situated on the Cape, and the younger listeners are located north of the canal, wouldn't you put the soft AC on the tower that can only be heard by that older demographic on the Cape, and put the classic rock station on the tower that can produce enough wattage to reach the younger listening audience here up north????

Because I think they want to serve their older established demographic on the Cape and southeastern Massachusetts with a better signal (especially since their competition WPLM has updated their format toward a slightly younger audience recently, they can grab older former WPLM listeners on the South Shore with the stronger signal), and also they know that there's no use sending the Classic Rock signal up north where it's programming would fail to compete with all the established rock stations from the greater Boston area.

Given my choice of classic rock stations, I always chose the Rocket over 'ZLX.

What happened to Nick?

What ever happened with Nick Strassel? Is he now with Sandab? Did he exit? Anybody Know?

I liked their music mix (compared to 'ZLX) too, and because they were automated so much of the time, it was nice to not have to put up with much patter. However, just because a few of us tuned them in on the mainland doesn't mean they could ever compete in the Boston market, or even on the South Shore, with the Boston area stations. They were on that 50 kW signal with that format for years, and never made a dent in any numbers off the Cape. Too much competition from Boston, Providence, etc... for the format. Not just 'ZLX, but many other stations that include Classic Rock in their mix also. I'm sure they will get better numbers for their gold and standards-heavy soft AC format among all the older listeners in southeastern MA, who now have nowhere else to hear it since WPLM recently updated their music.

Overall WKPE is a Big improvement. The Music is better than Pixy 103 and the website doesn't mention Nick (must have been sacrificed)...The Morning show is pretty weak so the music has to do the talking.

Well, I am gonna miss The RRRRRROCKET......Its signal used to make it up rte. 3 into Hanover and beyond. And I do think the rocket had a real good mix of classic rock that the "big boys " in town should give a try.

Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I was let go by the old company before the switch, and was not hired by the new company. I'm spending my time working on my house and looking for another job, hopefully in radio. Thanks to all of the listeners of the Rocket and ROCK 104.7 for giving me the best ten years of my life. I'd also like to thank Dan Towers for taking a chance on me back in 1999 as a jock, and for Dene Peachey for giving me my internship in 1996. I loved doing radio on the Cape, and I will miss talking to you listeners. I'll update you with any news. Thanks again to everyone. Sincerely Nick Strassel

When I worked there, I used to listen Braintree split all the way to the studios and then back. It is a REALLY powerful signal. I wish Sandab the best with it.
