I like it! This actually is more focused than one of my projections: that that AM could become a "B" station for the FM.
But does anyone know why 1600 The Beach aborted its split format (news 6a-4p, Richard Miller 4-6, and True Oldies elsewhere) after just a few weeks?
JAWilson said:All News....now that could work nicely. Great idea indeed! A third sports station would be overkill. Look at Orlando right now...they have four sports stations....that is MAJOR overkill.

If they follow their pattern in Orlando expect 690 to flip to ESPN in a few weeks.
I think that 1010 would have something to say about that......

Cox took ESPN away from Genesis in Orlando. ESPN likes doing business with big companies who have multiple markets. And if not, the new CBS and NBC sports networks are available.

JAWilson said:More like Genesis did not renew with ESPN when the announcement came of NBC Sports Radio launching. Cox had no involment taking ESPN away from them.

Agreed. The notion that OKV (former APE) couldn't monetize their signal in the 60's & 70's...and it's an issue now, is laughable.

The three most important considerations for an AM radio station are signal, signal, and signal.jmtillery said:To think that anything productive cannot be accomplished with that massive low dial position non-directional day signal is laughable.

I don't live in or near Jax, but I believe 690 is number one on all three, even at night.

You cannot hear WOKV-AM in Tallahassee at night because its night spattern throws everything East directly over Jacksonville proper from its night transmitter / tower site located West of Jacksonville in Baldwin. The reason for that particular pattern is because WOKV is required to protect AM 690 New Orleans.
