They probably have a hiring deadline in the area of March 1. That's only 6 weeks after Francene's passing, and that will be very aggressive if they can pull it off that quickly. But they need to.

The person they hire will probably have to give notice to their current employer, find a new place to live, and make arrangements to move. That part alone will take 2-3 weeks.

The magic date is April 1, because that's when the book starts. It wouldn't surprise me if that was the new person's first official day on the job.

Well, if you're right, an announcement should be forthcoming along about next week!

Well there's always the possibility that they won't make it. Even more important than having someone in that chair by April 1 is having the RIGHT person in the chair. And it's not like lots of people are dying to work for Clear Channel, so they may decide on someone and then get turned down over money or benefits or contract.

It will be interesting to see.

I called and voiced my displeasure for the sub host Tom Rose the other day. The receptionist transferred my call to Mr. Carls. He listened, and in my opinion, agreed with me. He seemed frustrated with the quality of the hosts he's had, so maybe there is a lack of people wanting to move to Louisville and work for CC. Maybe they are wondering just how long the position will be available. Will it be gone in the next round of CC budget cuts?

I mentioned that I felt Joe was the best I'd heard of the hosts up for the position. Carls was not as encouraging in his response as I had hoped.

If you think Joe would be a good midday host, I'd suggest calling Carls and telling him this.

I doubt that would do any good at this point. I suspect they've either made a decision, or are close to making a decision. As someone pointed out here earlier, the Spring book is barreling down on them. They really need a permanent host in place by then.

I was pleasantly surprised Carls took my call, and listening to my opinion.

That's good to hear.

However, I do believe that past behavior can generally be a good predictor of future behavior. The last two times that position was open, they hired newcomers previously unknown in this market. Given that pattern, I expect the past to repeat itself.

Tony Cruise announced this morning that an announcement will be made today at 3 pm regarding the new midday host. He said the decision was down to 2 persons. I'm guessing it is between Joe Elliott and Paul Harris since they have both had full week-long stints.

Same announcement now on the WHAS Facebook page as of 8:18 AM.

Another slap in the face to the talented Joe Elliott. He needs to leave anything that deals with Kelly Carls and clear channel communications. 84 WHAS has went down hill ever since Kelly Carls came into the picture. I really feel bad for Joe Elliott. Kelly Carls knew the listeners wanted Joe Elliott, that would be the reason he didn't get the position. Sooner or later WHAS will finally hit bottom and the advertisers that keep this station a float will finally pull out. What a sad day for Louisville radio.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe Joe didn't want the job?

Welp,

I'm pretty sure Joe wanted the midday job at WHAS, another blow in my opinion, Carls knew the listeners wanted Joe Elliott to replace Francene but NO!!! Hire another out of town that I'm sure will have nothing on Joe.

Looks like the only time I WILL EVER EVER! listen to 84 WHAS is when Joe is on Sunday Mornings.

Another low for 84 and the fine dumbass of a GM.

Just goes to show that CC doesn't give a damn what us the listeners think.

This seems to suggest Joe did .....

Personal view here - Francene was a very visible person in the community (Derby, Oaks, Events, Town Halls, etc). I just hope that with Joe being blind didnt play into this at all, meaning that he may not be as visible at events as others may. I listened to Joe when he was on at night and I never heard him ever do a remote from anywhere for his show or during the day for advertisers. I also recall him being the "studio host" for many of the big events like Derby for the station, not in the public view.

Joe, you will always be my number one host!!

To make a statement like that shows you don't know anything about Joe Elliott. He has been screwed over once by Kelly Carls. He wanted that show worse than anybody.

When I spoke to Kelly Carls, he all but told me Joe was out of the running. His quote was "we cannot live in the past." He saw Joe as part of the history of the station, even though for all that I can tell, he has been a dependable employee.

For myself, this is another reason not to listen to the station.

I would hope Joe would find an employer here in town who truely respects him. I can't believe this Levin is still on the air. Savage was bad, and Levin is just a clone. Does he ever NOT scream? Does he ever take calls? I guess talk shows that are successful today have to involve "anger" or "controversy."

F u kelly carls may u rot in u know where what a catastrophe how dare you pick someone that does not live in louisville i will never listen to that show again nor will i give her a chance u need to get fired mr carls you baffoon!!!You suck at what you do

With my rant aside i understand his thinking with joe being part of the past and he wanted someone with the future but this does prove corporate america does not care what we think we all wanted mr elliott but no and look at the health care bill most people do not want that and they will try to ram that through. The american people do not have a voice at anything!!!

She says she is moving here i wonder if that is true.

Why would you move to louisville from florida i would stay in florida!!!
