Woody Nelson Scam?

Damn Jay! Every one of your posts is amazing!

So Woody is the alias of an 80 year old woman? Or is one of Woody's alias' that of an 80 year old woman? Sounds like the Lifetime Movie of the Week. Now it's time for some of you web sleuths to go out and find mugshots...

.. at least it appears money was made in the real estate transaction listed by Jay... too bad they lost all the profits buying WJEP.

A few years ago immediately after WJEP was acquired and became WSBX, I spoke with a man [at least the person sounded male] who said he was Woody Nelson. I was questioned about the possibilty of conducting an FM frequency search in an effort to add a full power FM station or FM translator to accompany WSBX. So, either the person I spoke with was, in fact, Steven Blood A/K/A Woody Nelson, or it was someone posing to be Woody Nelson. Regardless, I did speak with someone who claimed to be Woody Nelson.

I have it, on good authority, that there really is a "Steven Blood" (aka, "Woody Nelson"), and he really did create the concept of "Cabo Wabo Radio".
As for the rest, somebody else needs to do the digging.

Doreen Blood is Steven / Woody's Mom. Steven is from Los Angeles, and his Mom still lives there. If somebody really wants WSBX, they should go straight over Steven's head to Mommy.

Then why, in Jays post did it say that Doreen Blood has an alias of Steven Blood? Could she be the one orchestrating all this using her son's good name? Hello Lifetime? Have we got a movie for you!

With all the negative posts and comments, our “good buddy” Woody Nelson has certainly made a name for himself. Whether anyone likes Woody or not, he is still well known beyond the Georgia and California boundaries which translates to celebrity status, even if it is only negative celebrity status.

Too bad he has not used his obvious talent for promotions in legitimate ways.
You're correct.....he has made quite a "splash" and seems to have created an interesting emotional reaction in several people who put much time and energy into causing the Woodster angst.
There are a couple of us in Atlanta who have followed this soap opera for a few years.
It would make a great TV series.......

Uh-oh, looks like someone else will have to air all those PSA's!

Craigslist, again?

Probably not - doesn't Craigslist have a minimal price? The website doesn't appear to have a revenue stream and only one or two listeners at best, so the only way it could go up on Craigslist would be as charity giveaway. I'd describe it as being being worthless. Think it includes the automatic garage door opener?
This link for this video - "Music Industry Fraud Alert" - was forwarded to us last night. It seems that Steven Blood has certainly earned his reputation as a scam artist!

Notice that the ad says nothing about a license to webcast the programming, which others have speculated Woody never had to begin with. I'm not buying used gear when the newest is so reasonably priced. Woody is essentially posting to himself, IMO.

I have to give the fellow credit for his moxie if for nothing else. Like Disney, Gaylord aggressively defends its trademarks and copyrights against anyone who violates them, even inadvertently. If Woody's new Opry venture is more than a figment of his imagination, Gaylord's lawyers will eat him alive. Then when he has been completely consumed, things will get ugly. Ugly and expensive. These people don't play games. All I can say is that Woody had better think twice about this; that is, assuming this is not just a fantasy.

Actually, Gaylord has no copyright claim on the word "opry" itself. They do, however, have a copyright to the words Grand Ole Opry in sequence. Now if ole Woody tries to align himself with the radio show, Gaylord would probably go after him. However I have heard other shows with the name "opry" in them.

Is there an Hispanic "Rush Limbaugh"?

No. And that is because Hispanic interests are very Balkanized. There is a saying in Spanish about "20 countries separated by a single language." Thus there is lots of Spanish language news on TV, but no real Limbaugh-type talk shows on radio or TV. Various efforts to do national Spanish language talk have failed, yet when good stations have existed in places like LA and Miami, they have been in the top 10 in the ratings... but based on purely local content.

David, it's good to see you on this board!

There is a Federal Prison in El Reno, OK. One of their biggest security issues is tension among the various Hispanic groups housed there. The Mexicans do not get along with the Cubans; the Cubans dispise the Guatemalans; the Guatemalans hate the Colombians; etc. Your observation is no surprise to me.

I was not aware that Gaylord, in fact, does not hold a trademark on the single word "Opry." I do know that there are a few other outfits that use the word; for example, "Opry of the Ozarks." I was mistaken in my belief that these retained their right to use the word due to prior usage or to agreement with Gaylord. One might suppose that, if Gaylord could trademark "Opry," this would've been done years ago.

Add the accent and word meaning factors, and you have a real disaster.

The accents from different parts of Latin America are as different as the ones between Cockney English and the accent of Jamaica. But word usage is even a bigger issue; the word that in Puerto Rico means "to take" as in "take two, they're small" means the F-word in Mexico and some other places.

Televisa, which makes a large part of its income from syndication of its TV production, schools its actors and comedians and presenters in "international Spanish" so that the accents are more neutral and the language is also acceptable and understandable to "Hispanics" (which is not the term used in Latin America) universally.

Steven/Woody must be reading these posts (guess he's got nothing else to do since his scamming days are on hold) as, for some reason, his site is playing Spanish music(?).
And very, very bad liners misread by Senor Blood. Has this guy ever had a real paying job for any station in THE ENTIRE WORLD? His mic style and pronunciation is completely from another planet.
The info regarding who owns "Opry" can always be interpreted either way, but suffice it to say, anyone using "Opry" in their website name while playing country music will most definitely be shut down by Gaylord. I'm not too sure how litigious they are, but country music + the term "Opry" is most certainly a violation.
Hey, it's only August and Mr. Blood has indicated that Opry Radio goes live on Jan 1, 2012 (must be one helluva website!). He'll go thru at least 10 changes till then, based on his past activities. But, he'll probably be in jail by then anyway.
And gotten a whole bunch more folks in his fan club....
