WOR looking...

Get your recipe books in order and send your tapes in; Rocco DiSpirito has parted company with WOR/NYC after a dispute in which he wanted his food show, slated to move from 11-noon to PMD next month replacing Bob Grant, to discuss general lifestyle issues rather than just cooking. So now he's out.

Buckley doesn't have to look any farther than Hartford, Connecticut. Prudence Slone has been doing a cooking show on the WDRC AM Quadricast for the past few years. Prior to this she had a show on WTIC 1080 and on AT&T Cable Channel 17. (She had moved to WTIC AM prior to AT&T becoming Comcast)

WOR is seriously messed up. How can such a powerful, heritage station have a horrid program lineup? They ditch Bob Grant for a cooking show before they even have it locked down? They have no program director. They go from O'Reilly to Grant to Savage right now. Then they want O'Reilly, Cooking into Savage?

Their ratings are horrid. They are something like 70% 65+. Yes they make money, but their overhead must be huge with folks like Dr. Joy Browne, Grant, Lionel and Joan Hamburg. They should blow it up, drop the syndicated stuff (which is the worst rated) and make it a good station again.

As a long time PD/OM, I have to question a cooking show in PMD myself..that does seem ridiculous!

Makes me wonder if they are starting to cut the overhead and getting in a position to sell WOR.

In addition to their overhead you mentioned, it sems like they have also had to relocate their tower..not cheap either.

With programming moves like these it'll blow up on its own eventually.

Proudly remembering the days of the hometown "country giant" radio stations now at

Buckley is totally Clueless too. Their once popular Oldies Station in Hartford is now a lowly Classic Hits Station and it sank to the bottom of the Hartford Ratings. There are 9 Commercial FM stations in Hartford. WDRC-FM is number 9. What's even sadder is that they're just slightly ahead of their AM talk station in the ratings.
