WORK FLIPPING

Doesn't 103.3 reach Washington/Lamoille counties already? What would be the point of such a thing? Not that I'm surprised. After all, it's Nassau!

Then find a different format to flip to other than variety hits. We need another one of those about as badly as we need another country or classic rock station in Vermont.

Recent article in Boston Globe said that once Nassau gets its hands on the intellectual property and calls of
WCRB Waltham/Boston (it would move to 99.5 from 102.5) they want to set up a national network of
classical stations, and they may switch "as many as five" signals in NH & VT to classical...not sure if WORK
would be one of these, but if they think Frank will "WORK"... But you're right, if mp103 already reaches those counties, why bother? (Then again doesn't 101.7, classical from Stowe, reach that area too? Hmm.)

(from Globe: "Once the purchase of WCRB is completed, Mercatanti says, he intends to switch as many as five of Nassau's 23 New Hampshire and Vermont stations to classical. He declined to say which stations will be flipped, but other Nassau stations currently broadcast a variety of formats, such as adult album alternative and classic rock.")

By the way isn't WORK the station with the very long legal ID? I know, it's supposed to be "WORK-FM Barre" but they have been known to add the names of about 7 other towns in the area afterwards...

That's a trait many stations will do in order to make it appear they are from one specific area. Some bury the legal in a stop set. For example, where I'm from, a station licensed to Troy, NY buries the legal, and at the top of the hour, they do Positioning Statement and city they want to be identified with (ex: "RADIO XXXXX, ALBANY"). Perception is reality, and listeners thing the station is an Albany station. I don't know what WORK does, but I agree if you mention say ten cities AND the legal city of license, that may be a bit too much.

Nassau's "Frank" format isn't variety hits ("Jack" format). Their Frank format is classic hits. So, if they do switch to Frank it will be classic hits and not the "Jack" format.

>>isn't variety hits

ah good point, like their 106.3 in Nashua NH

>>That's a trait many stations will do in order to make it appear they are from one specific area. Some bury the legal in a stop set.

"WKLB (...lowell...) Boston" as the legal ID, but they'll also run jingles as "WKLB--Boston!" whenever they can.

And of course there are stations licensed to Burlington which add Plattsburgh and Montreal to their ID (the only legal part of course being calls & COL)

Maybe now they will get a real top-40 station in the market. Part of WORK's problem is the song selction they play. If your going to a top 40 chr station in the market then follow the chr market polls like every other station does and stop with the 60% teenage rock stuff. It's night and day between WXXX and WORK. Any don't tell me about market size because the 18-35 group in Burlington is the same type of person that lives in Montpelier-Barre-Waterbury. Just ask what they are listening to. It seems WORK would play some R&B hip-hop during the day not just at night. Anyways just my thoughts.

They are only doing "Frank" because the sales people don't know how to sell WORK FM and apparently "Frank" tests well. I just wonder if they actually tested in the Barre market or New jersey and say that works for everywhere? Does Nassau even know what's going on in Barre?

I'd wait on this rumor. WORK-FM has been a successful Adult CHR for about 10 years. Nassau has been very resistant to change stations that have heritage in a market. Barre/Montpelier doesn't get a decent signal from either TripleX or Kiss in Rutland, so WORK fills a void. I believe the station does quite well with its target demo.

I didn't think Nassau cared about what their stations sounded like, just as long as they made money. I would think it would be funny if they made it classical.

From my post at Thunder Road...I cant see any change...the station cranking out promotions...seems to me that if they were changing they'd be slowing down...no evidence of that...Sounds like some disinformation to me!

Ahhh Bud... The fumes from the Late Models must be killing your brain cells! Take a look at the WORK website. The In Touch page events cut off by September 5th and all of their promotions have to do with school starting and other promotions like "Doe Camp" that have to be done by September 15. Mmmmm...when does the book start again??? September 21st! They could throw off Champ and MP103 by doing it right before...Couldn't they???

I hope that WORK FM does NOT flip. I think Work FM should just try to rearrange some stuff aka its lean on the music. The lineup also might help it more promotions more contests better coverage, anything that it can do to get on top.

Well, it looks that they will flip. Most likely before the next book. It all just depends if Nassau can get their stuff together.

I may be wrong, but isn't Big Bill one of the "WORK Sales Force" who has been featured on the morning show in the past?
I wonder......

I heard today that the flip will be happening in the next week or so. 9/15? Look for them to go Oldies or Classic Hits. I was told 50's and 60's would be in the mix. That's pretty much Oldies is it not?
