Worst Cable Systems in America

CableComm Willsboro NY (Essex County - Burlington/Plattsburgh DMA)
Carries WPIX NYC for CW instead of WPTZ-DT2. Some channels are duplicated in analog and digital. Also no PPV or VOD.
http://tvschedule.zap2it.com/tvlist...NY55723:X&isDescriptionOn=true&aid=tvschedule

Also no HD! They also carry WWOR for MNT and they carry all four Montreal VHF stations (ici, CBC, TVA, and CTV) - very few American systems carry TVA. Most systems in the Burlington-Plattsburgh area carry at least CBC and CTV

From Haley Prentice on a Facebook group:

A Town Now Without Cable TV: Star City AR. The cable TV system (in place since 1983) was shutdown earlier this week and the dishes removed, and cables cut from the receiving tower at its now abandoned head-end. The out of town owners (CCC-Cablevision of Monticello AR) citing lack of customers (b/c of competition from Dish, DirecTV) shut down the system rather than convert to all digital as is being done in other areas. A few outlying areas of the county had service to the end, but it was mostly a city-wide system. I confirmed the system was still in operation this past weekend when CNN was still audible on 87.7 (cable channel 6 NTSC) via several large cable leaks in town. The last picture was taken a couple of weeks ago and shows in better detail the OTA antennas (which are still in place now).

https://www.facebook.com/groups/fmradiopioneers/901965766549759/?notif_t=group_activity

This was their channel lineup. It had mostly Little Rock channels but carried KTVE El Dorado/Monroe for NBC instead of KARK. Also no KARZ (MNT).
http://ccc-cable.com/services/hddigital-tv-and-basic-cable/channel-lineups/star-city-ar/

By contrast, here's CCC's Monticello lineup, which does have KARK and KARZ:

CCC has some other bad systems, such as Rosedale, MS (http://ccc-cable.com/services/hddigital-tv-and-basic-cable/channel-lineups/rosedale-ms/) and Rison, AR (http://ccc-cable.com/services/hddigital-tv-and-basic-cable/channel-lineups/rison-ar/)

NewWave - Blackwell TX
Carries CBS from Abilene and San Angelo - co-owned, basically semi-satellites of each other
http://www.newwavecom.com/pdf/texas/BlackwellTX.pdf

This system must have shut down recently, I entered Blackwell's ZIP Code (79506) on Zap2it and it came up empty. But the above link still goes to NewWave's Blackwell lineup, even though the town isn't listed on the channel lineup page.

Here's why some of the systems on this thread may be going under.

Rising Programming Costs Putting Small Cable Systems Out Of Business

High programming costs have caused over 1,000 small and rural cable systems to go out of business over the last seven years.

In an August 21 filing with the Federal Communications Commission, the American Cable Association -- which represents small and mid-size cable systems -- says 1,078 cable systems serving 50,000 subscribers have gone out of business since 2008 due to rapidly escalating programming costs from rising rates of traditional cable networks as well as broadcast TV stations.

In 2014 alone, 47 cable operators shut down 91 systems serving 5,307 customers in 32 states. The group now says there are 4,833 cable systems versus 5,127 of a few years ago.

Newborn GA (Newton County): http://www.zap2it.com/rmp/tvgrid/tv...GA57289-DEFAULT&tz=US/Eastern&time=1410912000

The Monticello system (at least) may have been sold to Bulldog Cable, which runs most of the systems in the last post.

Are you using the fact that they carry a station not in their official DMA to support them being a bad system?
If so, then I have to disagree on that point, as people living in Nebraska will want Nebraska stations, not Denver stations. For state government news, state sports, etc.

Denver is not "local" regardless of the DMA in this case. Bring up some of these towns in google maps and see how much closer they are to North Platte than Denver. In fact, there are a couple of those towns that look like they should be in the North Platte DMA to begin with.

The New York Public Service Commission wants to force Charter to upgrade this system to get approval for its merger with Time Warner Cable.

...Charter’s record of performance in New York is already less than impressive. In Columbia County, Charter operates an ancient one-way video service-only cable system serving Chatham, N.Y. The PSC staff recommends Charter be required to bring that cable system up to date. More broadly, the staff recommends Charter be forced to spend more money on system upgrades and improved service than Time Warner Cable would have on its own.

I've walked into West Chesterfield, NH a few times. It's on the other side of the Connecticut River from Brattleboro, VT. The Vermont side of that area is Comcast, having been Adelphia before that. The broadcast lineup for them is actually quite good. The above is carried along with (I believe)

WCAX-TV (CBS) channel 3 Burlington, VT
WCDC-TV (ABC) channel 19 Adams, MA [satellite of WTEN-TV channel 10 Albany, NY]
WVTA-TV (PBS) channel 41 Windsor, VT
WGBY-TV (PBS) channel 57 Springfield, MA

As for the New Hampshire side, I would think they're really carrying WEKW-TV (PBS) channel 52 of Keene, NH [satellite of WENH-TV]. Also, somebody tell them that WSBK-TV of Boston is a MY affiliate and not CBS!

Just stumbled across this northwestern Indiana (Chicago DMA) lineup that looks "cursed" to me: TV Cable (yes, that's the company name) Rensselaer/Morocco, IN (serving communities with a combined population of around 7,000):

Channel lineup per their corporate website doesn't show any "digital cable" other than local subchannels: http://www.rensselaer.tv/chanren2a.html

But Zap2it's lineup for this system appears to show an "upgrade" for this system--which appears to basically be all cable networks outside of basic cable moving to a three-digit channel number and local affiliates placed on their virtual channel number (e.g., WBBM on 2, WFLD on 32). Also all OTA channels are from Chicago with two exceptions: WNDU-16 South Bend (NBC) and WLFI-18 Lafayette (CBS)--no other South Bend stations are offered.
