Worst local commercials

Dan Dennis said:
From Houston, anything with Mattress Mac. (Gallery Furniture.) Don't sell at the top of your lungs!

From D/FW, anything with Bill Dickason. (Southwest Kia.) He's just annoying.

Most memorable (don't know if they were truly "bad" or not, guess it depends on your POV): From SoCal, anything with Cal Worthington. Gotta admit, that's a name you don't readily forget.

Ol' Mac has toned down some as he has gotten older. Fear not though, Mattress Mac has competition now. Hilton Koch of Hilton Furniture has got to be on par with what Mattress Mac once was, if not worse.
"And that's a fact....Jack!" Every once in a while I wish the fake chainsaw he uses to "cut" mattress prices would magically become real and slip out of his hands. He would also be the same guy who put the final nail in the coffin of our 4 time WNBA champion Houston Comets. He bought them, didn't follow the Rockets to the Toyota Center, instead choosing to play the home games in God awful Hofheinz Pavilion and folding the franchise after I believe just 1 year of ownership. May have been 2 years. Regardless, he makes me want to throw my television out the window when he comes on.

My favorite commercial of all time here in Houston was the I.W. Marks Jewelers commercial from the 80's featuring Paul Boesch (the longtime wrestling promoter for our region) He was a former wrestler himself and had the worst cauliflowered ears I've ever seen to this day. The commercial simply showed Boesch rotating slowly from a right side profile to looking straight into the camera, at which time he said, "If I.W. Marks can make my ears look beautiful, think what he can do for hers."

Some come to mind are Bob's Furniture "Come On Down" His ad's are funny at times. The old Bedding Burn ad's.Crazy Eddie was mentioned earlier was funny at times with WPIX-FM's disc jockey Jerry "Dr. Jerry" Carroll on camera. And some of the local auto ad's with the shouting Billy Mays style voiceovers which is common for them.I will post more later when they come to mind.

my personal Phoenix favorites over the years are listed in the second one (by a variety of people). Express Flooring is particularly pervasive. Forgotten in the earlier thread: Mor Furniture/Oasis Bedrooms (OK, not that bad, but they ARE very frequent cable advertisers. I've counted at least three Network Music production tracks once used as news open music in the background. Plus their kids' furniture division is called "Mor Kids and Teens for Less". I didn't know somebody had that wide a selection of adoptable children...furniture. Do you get a free girl with every pink and white bedroom set?).

There are some other ones on The Consumerist. Search for "Badvertising".

How could you forget "Nobody Beats Mitch!" (Se Habla Espanol)

ALL the attorney commercials here in Denver are HORRIBLE. I ESPECIALLY loathe the ones that begin or end with the words I'm Not An Attorney Spokesperson. To that I have but one thing to say.....

YOU ARE IN A COMMERCIAL FOR AN ATTORNEY DUMBASS (Pardon my "French" :D )

I mean, it's not even POSSIBLE (Let alone LEGAL!!) for the voiceovers in those ads to make that claim. Makes me wonder how those attorneys get away with it.

JMO.....

Cheers :D

They aren't bad, but they get your attention. Back before youtube I found a page with all their commercials posted and emailed it to my friends... they haven't stopped talking about them yet... too many good ones to pick out one. So don't go buying plants from "Lo-Mart-Depot" (I've been using that phrase for "box stores" in general conversation for over a decade), buy from the Nursery at TyTy (Georgia).

This first one was considered "racists" so it was "banned"... even though it has a bikini babe in it.

This is just a list of multiple commercials. I like the ones with possums or shotguns.

Since someone mentioned TV lawyers, here's the most prominent around here these days...Tim Misny, who has the tagline "I Make Them Pay", and his own YouTube channel, even.

The heavy metal style music is recent.

He advertises frequently on Cleveland TV, and now has a segment (presumably sponsored) answering legal questions on the local CBS affiliate.

Hoping that local shop commercials count as worst local commercials, I nominate a promo done at KSAZ a few years back that consisted of two hands "talking" to each other, about the merits of Judge Judy and Judge Joe, shown back to back starting at 3pm.
Place your hand into a loose fist and move your thumb as you speak. Get the idea?

It lasted about a week before it was pulled.

KTVK has had some bad commercials themselves, even into the 2000s when we had to sit through them during breaks in Diamondbacks games.

Here's one in the old KTVK tradition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13ZP7UM9a44

Howie World. He hasn't been seen recently, though.
