Would all traffic format work in LA?

Maybe all-traffic radio wouldn't work, but perhaps All-Traffic Court radio might be riveting. Could be worth a try. Bet it wouldn't be boring. :)

Wasn't Car Radio playing AC music during that phase? I'm almost positive that there is an aircheck online somewhere....

Actually format was closer to downright Top 40, from the tape I have ("here are the Top Hits on LA's Freeways, on Car Radio 93 KHJ!!"."Ghostbusters" from Ray Parker Jr. and "Automatic" from the Pointer Sisters are 2 that come to mind). And they burned the old Boss Radio "93-KHJ" jingle logo pretty hard.

Never really understood why it didn't work. Traffic, news, and "the biggest current hits" is what PD Rick Scarry said it was at the time. They also took advantage of the '84 Olympics...An article in Billboard was pretty frank in the rationale they used...This was 1984, and they kept running into cars with AM-only radios as they decided on the new format...Even "Luxury Lincolns" they'd see in rent-a-cars.
