Looks like any day..big announcement coming.
...Or these owners have a better station lined up elsewhere on the LA dial. But I doubt it.
KHJ. Just sold to Catholic group, and signal downgraded.
Signal downgraded? Have not read of this anywhere. What are the specifics of the downgrade, and why would they do so?
The downgrade occurred several years ago when the site off Venice was sold, and the station was triplexed into the KNLA towers off Alameda.
The new site has comparatively poor conductivity, and towers that are not quarter wave in height. In other words, a major downgrade in the facility.
More and more Ancient Modulation stations are being diplexed or triplex because the ground under the sticks is extremely valuable. Cumulus is selling the dirt under KABC and WMAL for BIG $$ and piggybacking on another station's tower(s). In both cases, a downgrade in coverage - but they've seen the writing on the wall and are cashing in while they still can!
Makes Universal Media Access look like brilliant businessmen, who pocket $3.2 million in the process. I imagine the new owners will get certain studio and transmission assets added this past year, but it's still a windfall. Who says you can't make money with AM radio? Way to fatten the pig.
The other website is reporting that KFWB has been sold to Lotus for 11.2 million. Lotus also owns 1330 KWKW
also 1330 am Espn Deportes is now on 95.5 KLOS HD 2
"the ground under the sticks is extremely valuable"
This discussion got me checking the "coverage" of some of these stations, and a nice surprise was finding out through a Google search about the array for 1020 AM and 1150 AM. Fascinating reading if you're a radio freak/radio junkie like I am.
