If someone doesn't like your position, that's on them. If they don't like your disposition, it's on you. That may not be exactly quoted and I don't know who originally said it anyway, but it's pretty close and worth repeating.
That's actually one of the drawbacks of text-based message boards. We lack the visual and aural clues from seeing and hearing someone speak to determine what someone's intent is, so we have to guess at it strictly from the words chosen.
For example, Josh, I am certain that you have developed a talent for being able to make those kind of judgments just from hearing the tone and volume of someone's voice. I have been told by other blind people that's very common since you cannot see facial expressions, etc.
So if someone reads a post, and takes it wrong, it becomes easy to jump to the conclusion that the poster is "being nasty about it" or is "trying to be a gatekeeper".
I would invite everyone to read my original posts,
#9 and
#12.
It was
@PTBoardOp93 who originally replied to
@jabba17, not me. I took that opportunity to expand on what he said so that anyone reading
who did not already know the full information would now have it. Yes, I said that there is a problem with people who don't learn from corrections, and yes, it drives me crazy when people post their misconceptions as fact. But what I see here is someone accusing me of being "nasty" and a "gatekeeper" when I wasn't the one who corrected him in the first place ... just the one who gave a more complete explanation so he would be able to know more than he had originally.
So ... whose disposition should we be trying to determine here? Who gets to decide what a person's intent is based only on the printed text? How much can we honestly read into a post when every person interprets the post in their own way?
Really ... I could read the same post on a day that's gone well for me and have an entirely different opinion of it if I had the worst day.
