WPFB & WPAY Sold To WNKU

With regard to the AM's frequency location, I easily remember the station ID's that were dropped in by Dan Humphries during broadcasts of Miami University football game broadcasts:

"This is 910 in the middle of your dial".
 
Mr. Braden is not interested in keeping the AM. If so, why would WNKU buy it and say they're gonna flip it separately?

This is unlike the situation up here at WJER/1450 Dover-New Philadelphia, where the local owner LMAed both it and FM 101.7 back from Clear Channel and kept the status quo for years on both stations, only waiting for CC to get approval to move 101.7 into Canton.

Once THAT happened, he bought 1450 back from Clear Channel and kept it. But for a long time, CC actually owned both 101.7 and 1450, and Mr. Petricola ran it like he did when he owned them.

I'd almost be surprised if 910 doesn't end up in the hands of either Joe Mullins or Chris Lash.

Im curious in all the talk of WPFB AM no one has mentioned that 1400 WPAY AM in Portsmouth was not included in the sale. did they decide to keep just one property ? or is it going to someone else ?

That would be Middletown. That's where the licensee is listed according to RadioLocator.com. However I won't be surprised to see that changed to reflect him keeping only WPAY-AM.

And I'm leaning toward Lash for the obvious reason that he still has his FM in Waynesville. You make good points regarding Braden taking back the AM in Middletown.

As to Mullins, that'd fit the other possibility I mentioned, where someone previously associated with WPFB would buy it. Of course someone else could be sniffing around it, too.
 
Regarding the Port Union translator on 94.5... What a craptastic tower site... I wonder if they ever did any checking to see if the translator would fit on the old WSKS 96.5 tower? You can certainly "see" Port Union from up there...

Seems to me the logical owner for WPFB 910 would be the owner of WMOH and WCNW. ::)
 
I didn't know many people who went through WPFB's doors but someone mentioned Donny Taylor. He was a good friend of mine and I remember tuning in for his show and hearing that he had been killed in a car crash. Broke my heart.
 
Does it make sense for Joe Mullins to pick up WPFB? Joe has done a great job developing his radio network. I would think if he did it would make a lot of sense to pick up on doing the local play by play as well as offering local news.

If Joe doesn't make the move can anyone think of another possible candidate to buy the station ? I know the station can make money if you have someone in charge who really understands how to sell and program a small market radio station.
 
I've already named another potential owner, who has actually posted in this thread.

He owns two small stations up here in Northeast Ohio, and operates a non-comm FM in a town not terribly far from Middletown.

He can buy 910 AND that translator on the craptastic site for 1.5 million.....
 
Chris can chime in himself if he's still reading this thread (he's "1250WTAE" here), but I find it hard to see those stations going for $1.5 million.

Remember, the stations he bought in the Youngstown market - WANR/1570 Warren and WRTK/1540 Niles - were listed for $400K, but sold for $50K.
 
While there's certainly interest on my part, prices around the Cincinnati/Dayton corridor are WAY too overpriced. WPFB-AM bills nothing. And while it has a solid signal, its just not worth the asking price.
