WPOT Hot 97.5 Boston

i suspect all the known artists appearing at the station is due to DJ Chubby Chub's clout and industry reputation. Pat Garrett was hired by Radio One to do all the ID's on the old legal Hot 97.7. Hiring him to cut ID's and drops for the pirate just keeps the branding cohesive.

There is no chance of them ever becoming legal in the Boston area. There is no place on the FM band for any additional licenses. I tried listening to them in Dorchester last night and the signal was ok but on parts of Columbia Road I was still getting WOKQ, the country station in New Hampshire on that frequency.

And since 1999, pirate stations have been popping up in several cities. Once they pop, they don't stop. The FCC isn't serious about cracking down on pirates anymore. The most they will do is ask you for $10,000 and if you say no and ignore them, nothing will happen.
 
The station might as well just stay on the internet because as a pirate they dont have good signal at all so who is really hearing them on the radio like 20 people. they should just stay online ,and keep the station as it is now because they could get in advertisement for their website since they play clean hip-hop & r&b. i believe that could make money roll in build from being on the internet. The ID's they have now says Hot 97.5 but they dont say WPOT ;D
 
yeah i can hear all the other stations in canton and allston. but ive never heard this one

their antenna must be a joke, since from the sounds of it they spent cash on everything else

It's going to be almost impossible to hear 97.5 in Canton, with 97.7's IBOC hash being so strong there. The people running this station probably tuned to 97.5 and heard what they thought was static, and decided to go on there... WRONG!
 
I thought I had heard that in recent years Hot 97 went to POT.

But seriously, they mention online and on-air? What's the URL?
 
i think hot 97 boston will become big but not on the FM dial rather only online where they belong. The big machine for that station is DJ chubby Chubb who is already popular in the Boston Club scene could put this station back on the map. i do wish entercom or cbs will switch one of their stations thats doing bad to urban since im hearing jamn 94.5 is doing the hitz n hip-hop format which targets white surburban kids.
 
Wow, I thought this topic died with the whole 98.5 The Sports Hub announcement (big deal after a few days)

First off, regarding Pat Garrett, I used to program an internet radio station, and we wanted to hire him as our voice guy, however we weren't impressed with his attitude at all, he wouln't reply to most of the emails we would sent, or if he did which was a miracle, it would be a one letter answer. We found this extremely unprofessional and somewhat rude because we had a bunch of questions for him before choosing him, but he wouldnt answer them. As a former PD, they should be kissing our asses so we can choose them as our new vo guy!

BIG City 101.3 has had probably the most fines, with their recent upgrade to an ever more powerful stereo signal, they are getting tigher with WGIR 101.1 in Manchester, and WWBB 101.5 Providence I suppose (both CC stations). I can get fringes of them in CHELMSFORD!!! (however WGIR significantly bleeds over) ever since they upgraded to en even stronger stereo signal.

In Boston, 97.5 isn't too bad, they can be crystal clear in some sections, but as someone else mentions their antenna must be a joke because driving up my work's parking garage on the third floor they immediately cut out. However, they are almost unlistenable in many parts of Cambridge and many other immediate areas out of the hub itself.

If they ever did go internet only that would be a shame, it feels good hearing hip hop on the fm dial in Boston and brings back memories to the good ol' WBOT days, even if the signal is crappy.

Chubby Chub is the guy behind "WPOT" and all of the artists that have appeared at the station are friends of his.

Another former WBOT/WILD personality I heard on WPOT this weekend is David H, it brought back so many memories hearing him once again!
 
hot 97.5 should juzt stay online only and just pray one of the stations switch to an urban format and take hot to a different position in the dial. if the FCC go after them its pretty easy cause some pirates broadcast in different locations every week, and hot 97.5 is at once location with expensive equipment
 
I could get them spotty in Waltham today???

Stopped at a red light, I did a dial scan and instead of hearing a fuzzy WOKQ which I expected, I got "WPOT" and they were coming in alright. After a couple hundred feet it started getting fuzzy and by KFC I lost em.

A few days ago on their twitter page, they did a tweet saying something like "now stronger than ever on 97.5" or something like that or maybe it was "stronger signal on 97.5 boston", im too lazy to check lol.
 
maybe they think they could be like big city and get 1,000 watts but that wont happen . i do want to say they have a nice looking studio
 
I gotta say they sound really good to. I've been listening to them a lot. I wasn't around during the wbot day's. Did that station sound anything like this?
 
Fybush notes the FCC visited WPOT (as mentioned here, the notice of unlicensed operation to One
Westinghouse Plaza--oh, how ironic!--WPOT, a Group W station ;D --in Hyde Pahhhhhhhhhk.

See, they happen to be next to a certain Entercom property at 97.7
The feds may move with a bit more pressure on building owner/station ops, etc. given the proximity to
a legit station.

Scott also notes that WGAJ 91.7 Deerfield, part of Howie Carr's alma mater (D. Academy) could soon be gone.
 
i was listening to hot 97.5 today and i heard them playing a few commercials , and a commerical for a college in the area.
 
me too i've been listening online, it was for a womens college

"WPOT Hot 97.5" signed on in mid-July on a particularly poorly-chosen frequency, right next door to Entercom's WAAF relay, WKAF (97.7 Brockton). It didn't take long for agents from the Quincy field office to track the signal to One Westinghouse Plaza in Hyde Park - and to issue a Notice of Unlicensed Operation to the building's landlord, Motherbrook LLC/The Hamilton Co. Will pressure on the landlord get "WPOT" off the air - or will it join other unlicensed signals like "Touch 106" as long-term survivors on the Boston dial, much to the chagrin of the city's licensed operators?"
