WPRO is hurting , WHJJ is gaining

Thanks for asking!

Just-back-on The Block (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mu6ACyNzsv4), after traveling last week.

'Spent the week in DC, where it's another season. 80 degrees last Tuesday. Cherry Blossoms in full bloom.
And -- until yesterday -- Hoya-mania.
Tomorrow, Opening Day at RFK, where your Washington Nationals' starting 5 have a TOTAL of TWO '06 wins.

RE "I wonder if he has the inside on whats going on at HJJ:"

Nothing to report at this time.

RE "Where is Dave Barber?"

I'll tell him you were askin.'

JUST spoke with him.
He's flying back to Rhody from West Palm tonight.

Look for Dave's name atop a Who's Who cast list in "Manufacturing Dissent," the new movie about his pal Michael Moore (http://imdb.com/title/tt0961117/). And look for Dave in the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3IUU7a4wB0

PS: See you in Vegas next week? My session "Revenue, Right Under Your Nose!" packed the room in February at the Radio Advertising Bureau convention in Dallas. RAB asked me to reprise it @ NAB2007. So -- if you'll be there, and can tear yourself away from the tables -- DO join us, Tuesday 4/17, 1030AM, LVCC N239/241.

You'll leave with dozens of proven, money-making ideas you can sell right away...and a password to download 100+ pages of handouts and 5 killer spec spots.

Can't make it? http://hollandcooke.com/noseoffer.html

Holland,
Nice to read yah!
Have you heard from the group thats trying to bring WALE back to life?
AND,
What do you think about the crazy situation at WSAR?

I'm not in either loop.
'Not working for any stations near here.

Consultants tend to be experts-from-afar.
For some reason, I've worked more in Michigan than any other state.
I'm also in Delaware, North Carolina, North Dakota, New York, Texas, and Wisconsin at the moment.
And with several networks and syndicators and tech companies.

And, lately, I'm doing more and more work with companies-and-people-OUTSIDE-radio, who are interested in podcasting, a phenomenon not-yet four years old, and growing exponentially (http://getonthenet.com).

The old gag about consultants is "the more expensive the airplane ticket, the smarter he must be."

Meanwhile, Brian Jennings, who lives in Oregon, flies all-the-way-HERE to tune-up WPRO, among other Citadel talk stations. He and I are keeping the airlines in business. (That's Brian saying "JOE PYNE" and "BILL BALLANCE" @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4P0vpK1s45E)

My associate Mike McVay, based in Cleveland, travels SO much, and almost-exclusively on Continential, that he's one of FOUR people in the WORLD with a certain quadruple-elite OnePass status.

Back when I had a full-time job, in-an-office-managing-a-station-every-day, guys-who-did-what-I-now-do seemed to live an exotic life. I'd daydream of making Platinum, and riding up-front on every flight. And, when you travel this much, First Class DOES make it bearable. I've now got enough miles that I can go wherever I want, free. But to attain that status, you've gotta fly SO much that the-LAST-thing-you-want-to-do is get back on an airplane.

"Sometimes..."
cue harp swirl and out-of-focus effect that TV uses to cue flashback sequence
"...I feel like I'm in a reality show..."

I must say those links Holland provides are an amazing insight into talk radio. Well done.

As to talk radio WPRO is doing just one thing wrong. They are wasting the talent of Matt Allen.
WPRO has a situation. Not enough hours in the day. Depetro coming to PRO caused Yorke to bring it up several notches. Now PRO has two fine local daytime shows. So where does that leave Allen? answer NoWhere.
If WHJJ is allowed yet, they should GRAB, and I mean GRAB Allen. They may still be a mess. I don't know.
The WPRO P.D. Giammarco has his hands full on this one. I hope he figures it out, before Allen decides his career needs to grow.

As to WHJJ, Wheres Tony Farr? I haven't heard him on in months, why? HJJ or whoever did manage to turn him into a talk host. A local Savage type. Use him!
The one thing I hear about WHJJ OVER and OVER again is they abandoned local talk. They abandoned Rhode Island.
I do hear that WALE may come back to life. If that ever happens maybe those two guys wind up there.
It's a tuff situation. All the way around. Walter.

I am number 10,000!
I am a Nobody, so I guess it's not what it's cracked up to be. :'(

Whats the story at HJJ? They have the chance to put a local in the mornings and they
didn't. I don't understand what is going on there. I also heard HJJ dropped Arbitron.
Any truth to that?
Talk about a ship without a rudder. Walter.

We know it isn't Buddy, he's still about 4 months from the end of his sentence and according to the Pro-Jo, won't be back this way for a couple of weeks when he is released to a halway house in Boston....so Barber sounds like a good choice as the Kassman likes his job on Smith St too much!
