Another local Radio Station bites the dust WPWA 1590 in Chester gone. This station had the call letters WEEZ at one time.
Especially when Wawa is the town in Pennsylvania which the convenience store chain named themselves after. The station probably would've won the case, but decided the legal expenses weren't worth it.I’ve never heard of this station so I looked them up. Back in the 90’s they changed their calls to WAWA and were sued by WAWA the convenience store and they lost the case for trademark infringement. That’s so ridiculous to me. Call letters are federally assigned or issued identifiers, they aren’t trademarks for crying out loud.
More like, they got the attention they were seeking...so no need to pursue further.Especially when Wawa is the town in Pennsylvania which the convenience store chain named themselves after. The station probably would've won the case, but decided the legal expenses weren't worth it.
Yeah, I forgot that they were WCZN at one time too. Weren't they country for part of the time they were WEEZ too? I remember the studio in Brookhaven* topped with the sign depicting a "WEEZ" shaped branding iron, with the sticks in the back (which came down when they moved studio and sticks to Aston). I remember one of the guy wires being anchored in the middle of the Delaware County National Bank (later Southeast National Bank) parking lot. They were at their best late 80s early 90s when they were real country classics 56 to 80 as WCZN your Country Cousin with Sal April and some guy Ian mornings and they had a great signal in Philly…
