WQCD becomes rocker "101.9 RXP" WRXP

... it'll be interesting to see where CD101.9's listeners end up as well. Lite? Fresh? CBS-FM? Other stations?

Emmis is hoping, for their sake, disgruntled smooth jazz listeners (now there's an oxymoron) will end up at their sister station, Kiss-FM.

this would be a good time for 92.3 K-Rock to pump things up a bit...keep the classic ropck, but only the heavier edge like Aeppelin and Ac/Dc, and pump in more currents and lost the ------ rock like hinder and nickleback, and put in some more, system of a down, korn, hurt, and $*** like that...do what WYSP is doing and they should be alright

wow the only day I come down to Ct to take care of some personal stuff, there is a format change.
heres my take:
Don't like it too much.. sounds like 107.1 the peak.
I wish there was an active rocker like in Philly or hartford or springfield-Worcester MA etc... :'(
I have a feeling it will do good.
k-rock doesn't count!

Well now... Bestie Boys playing out of nowhere...
I'm gonna have to give this station a few days I'm going back To VT Thursday morning...

Beastie Boys are playing cos the accent /theme is NYC based acts, something I suggested here months ago; still waiting for some NY Dolls/Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers, "Chinese Rocks" or "Born To Lose"

As Allan says on the dentist's board that 92.3 should go top 40 and compete with Z-100, not country, but anytime soon if it's going to happen or not. Forget Pulse 87.7 WNYZ-LP/TV, put Star & Bucwild on 92.3 and don't go to 87.7. He will still doing Russian programming for good. 92.3 will soon to be a Top 40 station as Allan would say.

As for K-Rock, I want to see O&A go as well as other people go, because the station doesn't do really well in the ratings. The people at the CBS bandwagon needs a CHR station competing with Z-100. Go for it!

WRXP is going to sound like one of the HV stations like as you said WDST along with WPDH, WRRV and WBPM combined. I just criticised WBPM on the HV board about the 1-year anniversary of "Classic Hits 92.9" and how the ratings doesn't do well, that would be a great idea. Thanks to WRXP for this new format on 101.9.

Dennis Quinn and the rest of the CD 101.9 crew would have to leave the building as Porky Pig says "Th-th-that's all folks!". They will be out of their jobs! Goodbye old friend, syonara! Good luck in the future!

Another one bites the dust and banished to HD. I can remember when SJ was THE new format to be in. Salesguys selling quality of audience over quantity - and it working. Lots of adult promotion. Very clean, classy direct marketing. Station magazines, great websites, cool promotions supported by excellent direct mail with carefully selected lists formulated with PRIZM Clusters (yeah, I'm a marketing guy).

I'm reading the other posts and no one seems to be saddened by a 20-year station biting the dust. In fact quite the opposite - this seems to be an exciting and positive event for most here. But I'm not a New Yorker, maybe that's why I don't get it. Oh no, not that. I get Ratings and Revenue. I get CCU just announces huge cuts and others following suit. I get a hole in the market. I know there are other non-commercial jazz outlets. I get all that.

I don't get giving up a strong (for NY) position and brand, loyal, long-listening audience and top-5 TSL (English Language). But then I don't get their revenue reports either.

I dunno why I'm upset about this, I just am. People are out of work, families uprooted etc. etc.

Emmis. Truth. But in the end, just like the others. Maybe someone could (gently - be nice) set me straight.

I don't think people are happy that CD101.9 was taken off the air...if anything, most comments I've read about it here have been pretty positive. At the same time, however, that shouldn't deflect from an objective look at the new format...so far I'm seeing people on both sides...some liking what they hear, while others are more pessimistic about the new station's chances.

I will give them credit for at least starting up the new format with some jocks in place...how long did it take K-Rock to even get its first jock on the air (other than O&A, which they just carried over from Free FM)?

Hopefully, the staff of CD101.9 will get back on their feet soon. Who knows? Maybe someone will see an opening for a smooth jazz or "lighter than lite" station and take then on!

Does WRXP plays a fabulous Rock Mix of Classic, Alternative and new Rock of all time?

It sounds like the beloved 92.7 WLIR and Norah Jones' favorite station WFUV just had a baby! I am really enjoying it so far; good job Emmis.

Go ahead, lalumia, and link Norah Jones with Wayne County or Iggy and the Stooges... ;D

Did anyone out there get an audio clip of the format change? I'm sure there are many people here who'd like to hear it.

Personally I'm bummed about CD 101.9 being the station to have taken the ax. I would have preferred Hot 97 biting the dust. I liked smooth jazz as a genre of music...and as a format.

I also think the SJ jocks could have pulled off a good AAA presentation. They didn't HAVE to be canned, especially a market stalwart like Dennis Quinn. It's also a format that requires friendly, knowledgeable jocks. Maybe even MORESO than Smooth Jazz if it wants to be credible.

As far as the non-comm jazz stations, they're too into the esoteric jazz. Not the same thing as Smooth Jazz, which was mostly instrumentals with a peppy electronic beat.

I don't believe in paying for radio. Same way I don't believe in paying for TV. ;D

I'm not bitching about the new format, mind you. At least Emmis had the decency to replace the smooth jazz with something good. I like AAA music also.

They just went from Chemical Brothers to Melissa Ethridge. If they start playing welcome to jamrock...this radio's gonna fly out the window!!!

I don't get surprised by much these days, but this is pretty unique. I hope it works, really do.

And I can't even HEAR IT! What a wild mix.
