WQRT RealTalk/Furman factor

Hey moneymaker r u trying to show us what you know -- or really what you lack? This board, Ik thought, was to discuss local radio, promote local radio but sad to say its a "bitch board." I'm out.

Dean I'm being real honest here and always have...I don't know who Jamey is and where the QRT offices are located? But I'll meet you at a Starbucks if u wish...let me know...

I've been listening to Real Talk for the past theee weeks now..and sort of enjoy it -- there's no in-your-face radio and certainly no race-baiting as on the OTHER station in town..If you oike that kind of talk fine -- just my opinion...As for sports, both Lance McAlister(sp?) and Mo Eggers don't add up ti Furman's knowledge as well as deliver and experience. Again, just my thoughts:

McAlister: Tries to put 5 lbs of info into a 10-pound bag nightly; stutters at times; no direction -- certainly he's prepared but might be too prepared -- jumps from UC football to Reds to UC women's basketball the other day -- stay focused, please.

Eggers: No life experiences what to speak of -- but he thinks he has -- talked about his pants size one day last week; talks about women and beer always -- and I am embarassed for his wife -- leave the (opposite) sex talk alone -- there's too much sports to talk about -- which he nevers does...sounds tired, bored and certainly not real prepared.

Furman: Seems to enjoy his work; has a new life at Real Talk, relaxed, confident and knows where he wants to go -- and his guests arfe second to none...national contacts...overall - THE BEST sports interviewer on radio

The Mole is dead on.

The only time Lance is any good is when he has Lap and Trumpy on the show during the NFL season. Lance is good then because he shuts up and lets them take over the show.

I think Moe and Lance are at the talent level of fill in hosts, not featured hosts.

Lance should be replaced by Ken Broo but I know Broo has another career.

So I just turn on the radio to see if the Reds won -- what a joke swept by Pittsburgh (another long summer)...and hear this character Dock (sp?) Rodgers....

The key to radio is entertainment, and by G-d he's awful, boring and sounds like he belongs in a college lecture hall..where do they get these cats? Ooops, on the cheap of course.

As for Broo, has the knowledge but as a TV guy can't bring the "heat" hence no controversy -- and that's entertainment and that's what sells...

Seems the know it alls like McAlister and Eggers fear to get into a controversial battle with the local teams, why? CC has that $$ relationship...I remember when Furman dogged Mike Brown years agao saying he was sperm lucky..now that was radio.

Almost forgot the Segmen, at WLW...Bill Dennison I believe...how does this guiy stay in radio, let alone WLW....He sounds like Mel Tillus (sp?) and ever hear him ask a question..takes :45 seconds and then he answers it...painful...very painful...

I was just about to bring up Doc, I like him. His main gig is real estate, he's not a "radio guy", but I think he does a good job. He's a former pitcher, and I respect his analysis of the current Reds staff (he's not impressed). He's a good fit for the weekends because he's more laid back, definitely an improvement over Tracy "me me me" Jones. When it comes to postgame talk, I prefer a more professorial approach than I do with just a straight-ahead talk show.

I like Broo's style. I don't always want an in your face guy. Smooth, lots of info, great guests and his short asides on music make it fun.

Seg is a nice sidekick to the other guys, especially Willie. It is like having a buddy of mine on the air. I expect a nice guy but not a smooth pro. His racing show is horrible but I am not a racing fan.

Seg will one day be the Joe Nuxhall of WLW...a grandfather type who is popular and welcome in your home but not a HOF broadcaster.

I now like Doc Rodgers. He grew on me. A few years ago I did not care for him but he got better and I got comfortable with him. He has a lot of insight and that comes from being a baseball Assistant GM and other business side baseball roles to go with his college and minor league career.

Ken Broo is the best sports talk guy in local radio. He's knowledgeable, easy on the ears, not afraid to tell it like it is, and best of all, he sounds like a pro.

Lance has a good voice and sounds like a pro but has always been too hyper for my tastes. But overall I like him.

Mo Egger is unlistenable and an embarrassment to local radio. I hear local sports talk hosts in markets half this size or smaller that sound more professional. Since when did two formerly prestigious 50,000 watt stations become a training ground for egotistical wannabes like this? To his credit, he must be a hard worker who will work cheap and do absolutely anything to get ahead....right up Clear Channel's alley. And we have to put up with it because they are the only game in town. Listening to Mo and Nick Brunker waste precious local sports talk time bantering about something stupid is an exercise in tedium. Simply awful!

OK gents, here's the clincher...Tuesday afternoon I'm flipping the dial -- turn to Mo Eggers and low and behold Lance is on in the afternoon...go figure...on a day the Reds and MLB suspend Volquez (sp?) for PED...this clown is chaqtting with Chuck Weber the coach of the Cyclones..and then I switch to Furman at 5 and guess what? he's talking to Pete Rose about tdhe drug suspension...need I say more...I've always said sports-talk radio is about personality...Furman has one.l.Broo has one..Mo Eggers....pleeeze...Lance...should be working on the Geek squad..my message for the day.

No question Andy is now warmed up and back to his old self. Almost like the first months of his show were spring training for the regular season.

I do think he needs to be careful and not constantly load up the show with obscure sports. For that to work, the people have to be very compelling personalities or have some unique story to tell.

Just looking for someone to confirm...I "hear" Furman was offered the morning gig at 1530 ESPN...any truth?

How would there be a morning gig there? I thought ESPN Radio requires their affiliates to clear Mike and Mike.
