Eastern Carolina radio looks like format changes is on the way shortly dick broadcasting that owns 92.3 FM and 101.1 FM the river which right now BOTH simucast each other but there’s a AD Promo letting listeners know that 92.3 FM Jacksonville is gonna be boost its power to 100,000 watts and the other half 101.1 FM WQZL will be changing formats. Stay tuned!

92.3 at 100kW won't reach Greenville and Washington any better than 98.7 does, which has been 100kW at nearly the same location for decades. I doubt they are changing 101.1.

Running an AD letting the listeners know about the change coming up!
"AD" usually means "After Death". I think you mean an "ad" which is a short form for an "advertisement". I've never seen it capitalized for that purpose.

A "promo" in general in radio is a non-paid promotional announcement for something the station is doing... a show, an event, a contest. I've never seen an "ad promo" term used before.

This sounds like a criticism, but those of us "in radio" are often here to show interested listeners how things work.

See I wasn’t wrong after all!

You hit the nail on the head, David. While I'm here, I didn't even know there was a 92.3 down that-a-way. I remember going to Emerald Isle with my family and them playing 'KRR on the way, down there and back. Of course, that was like forty years ago LOL. I heard somewhere, that 'PCM, when it was on 101.1, got down to like the Southern Pines area, so maybe there's room down there for another station. IMHO though, the FM band is so carved up these days, that no one hardly gets out like they could/should. A long-standing example of that, is 92.3 in the Piedmont, with 'KRR and K92 (can't remember their call) in VA battling it out, have been for years.

WXLK is K92 I believe. I used to get K92 in Martinsville, VA but really hard to pick up now.

Yeah, I believe that's it. I was in Brown Summit back in October and my daddy even mentioned then, how the two stations ran together there. Dunno about Martinsville way though. Man, I remember the ol' WMVA, when it was on 96.3, the biggest little station LOL. I also remember when they were preparing for the changeover, asking listeners to call a certain number, to suggest what the format, etc should be, even imitating President Reagan and others I'm sure, in said promos. Yep, that's the word.

WKRR is a Asheboro station with a tight null to the north, FCC tabular data says 9kw, same with WXLK but south, from what I heard they had a gentlemen's agreement in place, at some point WXLK rebuilt their site to spec and went HD, once that happened, especially with the good elevation at poor mountain, well the result is a interference mess in the triad, especially north of Greensboro.

Anyways, back to 101.1, it was a verrry late comer to the band from a site near Aurora before moving to their current site near Bath. Urban AC would be a smart move.

Urban AC in the north part of the market is generally served by 104.3 WFXK. Due to their tower placement east of Raleigh they blast into the market. It’s been tried, and usually flipped after a couple years. One of the attempts was on 92.3 and 101.1 and carried “The Touch” format.

Now that we’re into Feb does anyone know what 101.1 has become? I don’t have a radio in the house anymore and forgot to check it last time I was in the car.

About a decade ago, I stayed overnight in Danville and 92.3 was a mess from north of Winston-Salem onwards. I figured K would mostly win out in Danville itself, but it was still about 50-50 with AC/DC randomly cutting in.

It’s still the river as right now.
