WQZL FM 101.1 FM belhaven to change formats?

There’s no tower site moving. Just feeding a new program source to 101.1.

92.3 went 100kW from the same tower.
No. WQSL with 105.5 WXQR and WPXU-TV are moving to the current 98.7 WRMR tower. Plus they're not going to break off 101.1 from the River until 92.3 is upgraded.

Blue dot is current site. Red is the new one.

Interesting, I guess the old tower is coming down if the tenants are all leaving.

The signal is going to be so poor in the 101.1 coverage area. WRMR 98.7 is not audible in Greenville or Washington, and they’re at the top of the tower. In fact, the first use of 101.1 was as a 98.7 simulcast.

Yea kinda sad as I like the way 101.1 was.

I feel sorry for fans of alternative in Greenville. I thought WRMR being licensed to Jacksonville would make it a Greenville station.

This also means WSFL is the only rock station for that area now that WXQR is gone.

We also have 100.7 WRDU. It covers a good half of the market if not more.

98.7 is pretty far south of Jacksonville, toward Pender County. It has never covered north of New Bern well. 92.3, 98.7, and 105.5 are better suited as Wilmington stations, which is where 98.7’s studio is located.

I may be making assumptions about WSFL that are incorrect. Is it a true classic rock station or, like WRDU, has it become more like a mainstream rocker in response to WXQR's change?

I remember listening to WRMR in Myrtle Beach many years ago (with different letters). Its format was oldies and, believe it or not, it played "A Time for Us" by Henry Mancini. This is seriously a song you would not expect on an oldies station. And the signal was listenable in my motel room.

Covering a market and targeting a market are two different things. iHeart doesn't promote WRDU anywhere outside the Raleigh metro and listeners no longer just hit scan on a tuner the way people who post on radio message boards do. 95% of the Greenville/New Bern/Kinston/Jacksonville market is likely unaware of WRDU's existence.

As someone who has lived here their entire life I can guarantee you that’s not the case. You hear it played in stores, etc. People here still talk about the original incarnation of WRDU on 106.1.

Stay in your lane. I’m not illiterate to the radio business like many here.

WXQR was one heck of ima radio station back in it’s early years!

The original WRDU was licensed to Wilson and put a nice city grade signal into eastern NC from their tower in Middlesex. It was just as strong in Greenville as it was in Chapel Hill. I remember it blasting in the dorms at ECU.

Re: WRDU, I remember tuning across the dial at GMS and hearing the lady DJ mention the trek of Hurricane Diana, the first hurricane I remember by name.

I spent a lot more time listening to WRDU than I wanted to. I still remember the booming voice "One Oh Six One AAAAARRRRR DEEEEE YOOOOUUUUU."

I was trying to listen to the standards station in Charlotte but the radio would go back and forth between the two.

LOL, roger on that. It wasn't one of my stations of choice, either, just mentioned what I remember most about it.
