WRAT: The Rock Station For Soccer Moms

I swear, between its small selection of Currents, choosing pathetic ones to play (Daughtry songs and Buckcherry's "Sorry" both come to mind) and keeping them in the rotation forever, and having a tight and incredibly safe library, WRAT is sounding more and more disappointing by the day. You're supposed to be a rock station. If I want to hear some of the songs that you guys choose to play, I'll just opt to listen to The Point or PLJ instead.

This may surprise you coming for me, but thank goodness for Press Communications. They are spot on with both G Rock and The Breeze, representing their respective formats well with deeper libraries than anyone else in the market. I have minor criticisms for the former (less Linkin Park and NO Fall Out Boy would be great), but they easily compete with FNX for best commercial Alternative in the Northeast.

Going back to WRAT, this shows you how sad they are as a rock station: Both Nickelback (with one of their cheesiest, poppiest songs to date) and Mudvayne went for adds in the same week a couple of weeks ago. WRAT threw Nickelback into high rotation instantly and to date has yet to even add Mudvayne. Hey, let's play something that you can hear on every single soccer mom station around!

I really don't mean to be critical, but as a fan of rock music, I have to do this. If you call yourself a rock station and you sound no edgier than your typical Hot AC most of the time, you should go back to the drawing board and make some changes. That said, I am not a fan of WRAT's "Mom-Approved Rock" direction they have been leaning in for the last couple of years. We don't need a station that could call itself "The HawkPoint" - we need a real rocker with teeth. I want to see them succeed, but I don't like the fact that they are misrepresenting themselves by using the "Active Rock" tag. Either go edgier, or change your name to "Alice" or something and your classification as well.

You do realize that WFNX has an impressive 0.9, right?

actually FNX is a great station...SC is actually right! problem being....they don't come in anywhere (I lived in NH for 2 years) outside of a small radius. that may account for your comment re: their rating (?) ...I would drive 20 blocks and lose em....or pick up interference.

What the FNX detractors don't seem to get is that they're not trying to be a mass-appeal station. They're devoted to serving a particular niche, and serving it well. Same goes for G-Rock for that matter, now that they're out of the rut they were in earlier this decade. It's great that there are still few stations out there that don't just blindly follow the masses.

I completely agree with the initial post. I now refer to it as 95.9 the Ferret.

They need to play the types of modern rock that is on XM's Squizz channel and lose the obvious "safe" music. This isn't a major leap, playing Slipknot's "Psychosocial" or Hollywood Undead will not alienate the current audience and will only re-enforce what the station was SUPPOSED to be.

they need to sound like 107 The Bone in the lehigh valley. which i noticed even the mighty MMR isnt playing psychosocial.... get with it.

BUT... WRAT does sound better than wrfy and wzzo

Just got a look at WRAT's latest playlist. Two of their most played songs are Staind's "Believe" and Nickelback's "Gotta Be Somebody" - yeah, WRAT sure will rock you ... to sleep. On their small list of "Currents", they've got two songs each from Hinder and Saving Abel, which are two of the most pathetic, generic bands out there today ... can anyone tell the difference between these two and Nickelback? Has anyone ever seen them in the same room together? And they're still not playing Slipknot, Mudvayne or Five Finger Death Punch, among other acts they should be on right now.

Oh, yeah. It also bears mentioning that Buckcherry's "Sorry" - a sappy power ballad that went nowhere on rock radio - still received 8 spins after being in rotation for upward of 9 months. This station has really become pathetic, and no one can deny that. They are even softer than WMMR overall.

JoeFromTomsRiver got it right. 95.9 The Ferret fits their current programming much better than The Rat.

Can't say I agree. I kinda like this station! It seems a bit edgier than it was a few years ago. And I enjoy the midday babe host, as well as the afternoon guy!

As for WFNX Lynn/Boston, that is one awesome radio station. I think its ratings have much to do with the fact that it's a Class A signal, not its music.

That is very mean spirited and certainly uncalled for, not to mention a matter of opinion. Me thinks you have a personal issue with this woman.

Not to be mean-spirited or anything, but she is NOT a "babe".

I just checked the RAT website's jock pictures and I would say the Midday host is quite the "Babe"

sorry...couldnt resist...so did i ...i agree with joe. and listened online for a few yesterday. sounds like a few to many ciggys. not my cup of tea. sounds more like my uncle than a babe. just a matter of opinion. everyone goes for something different.

Take a look at the RAT website at wrat.com and look at the Rat's Halloween party pictures. I'd have to say that the midday chick is looking mighty fine!!!! You dudes need to have your eyes checked.
