I swear, between its small selection of Currents, choosing pathetic ones to play (Daughtry songs and Buckcherry's "Sorry" both come to mind) and keeping them in the rotation forever, and having a tight and incredibly safe library, WRAT is sounding more and more disappointing by the day. You're supposed to be a rock station. If I want to hear some of the songs that you guys choose to play, I'll just opt to listen to The Point or PLJ instead.
This may surprise you coming for me, but thank goodness for Press Communications. They are spot on with both G Rock and The Breeze, representing their respective formats well with deeper libraries than anyone else in the market. I have minor criticisms for the former (less Linkin Park and NO Fall Out Boy would be great), but they easily compete with FNX for best commercial Alternative in the Northeast.
Going back to WRAT, this shows you how sad they are as a rock station: Both Nickelback (with one of their cheesiest, poppiest songs to date) and Mudvayne went for adds in the same week a couple of weeks ago. WRAT threw Nickelback into high rotation instantly and to date has yet to even add Mudvayne. Hey, let's play something that you can hear on every single soccer mom station around!
I really don't mean to be critical, but as a fan of rock music, I have to do this. If you call yourself a rock station and you sound no edgier than your typical Hot AC most of the time, you should go back to the drawing board and make some changes. That said, I am not a fan of WRAT's "Mom-Approved Rock" direction they have been leaning in for the last couple of years. We don't need a station that could call itself "The HawkPoint" - we need a real rocker with teeth. I want to see them succeed, but I don't like the fact that they are misrepresenting themselves by using the "Active Rock" tag. Either go edgier, or change your name to "Alice" or something and your classification as well.
