WRCN Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes???

What's going on at JVC/WRCN?

There are no jocks currently on air and the web site indicates "check back soon" under DJ's.

Denis Mcnamara's Linked In page no longer references "Afternoon Drive-Time On-Air Personality 3-7pm Weekdays/ Asst. Program Director at WRCN"

Budget cuts?
Format Flip?
Relaunch?
Drew Kenyon?

How about it, Mcfly?

Reaction to the upcoming changes @ 94.3?

An LMA deal between JVC & Connoisseur that would have the new Rock format on 94.3 and 103.9? (yes, I know they tried a WRCN simulcast on 94.3 once before)

(Heard Malibu Sue filling in for Dennis the other day...Great job as always!)

Here's another crazy thought....
WRCN has carried the Jets games for a few years now.
On Sept. 7, 1050AM in NYC switches to ESPN Deportes, with ESPN NY exclusively on 98.7FM. HOWEVER, 98.7 FM doesn't carry well into Suffolk County.
Could it be possible that WRCN becomes a simulcast of ESPN NY, much like 107.1 was from 2008-2011?

Though pure speculation, this would make sense. If ESPN is trying to woo the NY Yankees to sign with them for rights to broadcast their games, it is certainly a plus to have good coverage of the Metro area. Perhaps ESPN has arranged an LMA with JVC Broadcasting for WRCN?
It seems that when stations lets go of their jocks, as is apparently the case with WRCN, a programming change often occurs within a few weeks (ie September 7).
If such a deal actually happens, I would like to see JVC take the money they receive, to LMA WIGX 94.3, and use it to simulcast country WJVC 96.1 into Nassau County :).

Budget cuts....

They got rid of a well known jock who was there for a long time, known to the listeners and liked. They brought in a younger greener jock, who could do the job, but didn't have the years and rock knowledge the last guy had, they screwed him with the promise of more money, and now were down to no jocks.

Dennis McNamara, I liked hearing him, and now he is gone too, this is the way that company handles things, and its not over yet, who will be getting Ralphed at 96.1? ???

The question is whether they let go of the WRCN jocks as a cost saving measure, or in preparation for a sale/LMA.
It would be rather unusual for an established station such 'RCN to start running jockless, unless a major change is on the way.

The Friday 8/24/12 6:00pm TOH:

George Kertis: "WRCN, Riverhead. The evolution continues."
Female voice: "T minus 66 hours and counting."

Looks like we will know the answers on Monday 8/27/12 at 12:00 noon

RadioInsight.com states that WRCN will be staying with some form of rock music.
They evidently base this on the station's website indicating that the morning program will be The Real Radio Show, with Frankie Dee, and AJ Pero (from the band, Twisted Sister). This show had been airing Saturday nights on WRCN.

The Real Radio Show, Mornings Starting 9/4: http://www.therealradioshow.com/#!home/mainPage

Well, it's monday. 5 hours until WRCN's BIG announcement!

I doubt that WRCN will stray too far from it's rock format, maybe a new name or something.

At the most insane, WRCN could have it's intellectual property sold to WIGX, and flip to a Party 105 or My Country 96.1 simulcast. But, I doubt either of those two are happening

The GM came on, went into a spiel about the stations history..... and now it's "103.9 WRCN: Everything that Rocks", seems to be active rock.

First song: "Master of Puppets" by Metallica.

Good luck, JVC. Completely out of the blue and not what most other owners would do.

Before they went classic rock in the late 90's they were active rock. Don't know why they even switched to classic rock in the first place.

Only the folks at the old Barnstable would know, and they're not around anymore.

It seems odd that the WRCN website does not mention the change to active rock, at all. It still says "Classic Rock" on their logo. Even their Facebook and Twitter pages are mum about any changes.
Perhaps this suggests that the change took place with little planning, maybe in a rush to beat WIGX in making a switch to active rock.

They still are classic rock with their 80's and 90's rock.
They just dropped the upper demographic
