WRCN Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes???

What in the world is this morning show? Sounds an awful lot like paid program. Wouldn't be the first time jvc went that route in morning drive. The bone featured a paid am show a few years back.

It's www.therealradioshow.com Originally, it was on Saturday nights.

I was on the air at RCN in the late 90's when the format change was made from active rock to "Classic Hits" (it wasn't Classic Rock, that happened a couple of years later, and I still shudder when I think of the crappy music we were forced to play back then - "hits" by Carly Simon, James Taylor, Seals & Crofts and the like)... before the change, I was able to host what the PD called "a morning show in the afternoon" and it was FUN... the problem with the active rock format was that the listeners within the RCN signal range were, let's just say, less than desirable consumers... which made advertising dollars extremely hard to come by... in fact, my first appearance ever for RCN was at a bar that was raided by cops who were checking everyone for outstanding warrants! I was like "Dude, your cop cars are blocking the rock van."... I hope JVC has better success selling the active rock format on RCN because personally, I love it!

Man 2 weeks on the air and no new rock?  Is this really everything that rocks?!  What a let down, The BONE did a better job at exposing new rock than RCN at the moment. Hope they prove me wrong.

@ Drew, I really don't remember RCN playing wimpy songs, that couldn't have been long....who's call was it to play that stuff on the air?? Was it a surprise? I mean did you know this was going to happen?

They pulled us all into a meeting about an hour before they flipped... we were told as jocks to only give the weather and traffic then into spots... they played four days straight of nothing but Billy Joel music to "purge" the active rock listeners (ah, good plan!) then launched into "Classic Hits"... they kept the classic hits format for at least two years I think... I remember there were two Aerosmith songs and one Led Zep song in the rotation.. it was brutal. Well, gotta go update my resume for The Shark!

Anybody know if work is being done on the tower where RCN is? Traveled up to riverhead for my car to get serviced and it was clear but on my way back it started getting choppy in Flanders, then worse in Hampton bays and almost unlistenable in Southampton. Hopefully they'll up the power, Party 105 seems to be clear and I believe they are in the same tower.

Isn't the WRCN tower in Manorville over by that shrine?

RCN sounds better than ever! I think they are automated for now but its nothing but New hard rock and Alternative. Best rock station I have heard on LI in a while!

Obviously, you have not heard the "The Really Bad Radio Show" in the mornings.

Matt Mangus, Drew Kenyon, Tony Paige - Where are you?
