WRDU GOING ALL TALK

106.1 RDU Talk? Or will they do away with that handle like they did at first when they named the country version "Rooster"?
Also, CC is forgetting one thing: RDU wouldn't just be going up against PTF; they would also be going up against 'ZTK. I predict that the Curtis Media tandem would win that war also...
As for the Carolina sports broadcasts, would they stay on RDU, or would they join the Capitol sports conglomerate that now has the flagship stations of both N.C. State (Mix 101.5) and Duke (the new 620 The Buzz)? Maybe shift N.C. State over to 99.9 The Fan to make way for Carolina on Mix 101.5 (Mix was the former WTRG's predecessor for Carolina sports broadcasts)? The only other Clear Channel scenario I can think of would be for the Tar Heel Sports Network to move back to 100.7, which would then put the local affiliates of Carolina (100.7), Wake Forest (101.1) and N.C. State (101.5) together on consecutive spots on the dial.

I recall reading an article stating that they would go local in the morning.

I don't know if they will drop the calls, but I wonder if much like 94.5 in G'boro, 106.1 will become "Rush Radio."

Here's another good name: "Yuck Radio 1-oh-SUX-1/94.5"...
Leave it to CC to take what was once "The Triangle's Legendary Rock Station" and completely and totally mutilate it...
Of the CC stations in Raleigh or Greensboro that changed formats in that 2006 slaughterhouse (WGBT, WFMX/WMKS, WRVA, WRDU, and WRSN/WKSL) and then changed formats again (WMKS) or are slated to do so in the near future (WRDU/WGBT), the only one they improved on in 2009 is WMKS (and even there the signal still sucks, as it has since they butchered the former WFMX, moved it to Greensboro, and killed that 100,000-watt signal).

Good Lord, the carnage CC has wrought on the stations they own, just in these markets.
How can Curtis Media not win this battle? Just wait for CC to drive the Vista Cruiser into the ditch AGAIN.

It's very simple. News/Talk listeners don't care who's local. All they want is Rush. I think that is going to give RDU a nice boost.

I think what Robbie meant to say was "Rush Limbaugh listeners don't care who's local. All they care about is Rush." That is true. But most news and talk listeners want a blend of local and national news plus traffic, weather, etc. WPTF does a decent job with that and should be fine. Mr. Roundhouse is correct about saying WRDU will get a boost. How could they not? The station absolutely blows right now. But if Clear Channel underestimates WPTF like it did WQDR they will be in for a big wake up call.

Yeah, it's easily done to put all "news/talk listeners" in the same basket based on Rush's audience, because that's just for speculation and conjecture.
But when you get to thinking CC has found their magic bullet for Curtis, then you might not want to underestimate Curtis or overestimate CC.

Well, there is no doubt in my mind that the new "WRDU" will gain some listeners, but WPTF will continue to be strong, this is a radio race that will be interesting to watch, the triangle market needs two good "news/talk" stations.

Funny that Curtis beat them (clear channel) to all the web addresses again. I remember a lot of CC people pissed that Curtis grabbed all the rooster domains before the format switch was even announced. www.rushradio1061.com is a great example that CC keeps making the same mistakes over and over again. Curtis keeps outsmarting them and they will continue to do so.
