WRDZ 1300 To Resume Operations With An Emergency Antenna

I'm sure if one wanted to purchase an AM station that either 1240 or 750 could be had from Heartland Signal/Newsweb and they are both on the air at least.

But who knows for how long. WNDZ 750 has been running funeral march music by Chopin on a loop for at least the past two weeks.

Negotiating with a buyer. Sure they are.

Looks like they are back on the air. Heard today near O'Hare. Decent signal with Rebel Radio programming. Checking the FCC web site, this appears to be operating on STA basis using the tower at 4949 W. Belmont Avenue with 1.125 kW daytime and 1.0 kW nighttime.

WMBN 1340 Petoskey, MI has ordered a Valcom antenna recently. Don't know when it will be installed.
KBSZ/KIKO Apache Junction, AZ are DIPLEXED onto one Valcom antenna. One is at 1260, the other is at 1340. Wouldn't that be too close for comfort frequency wise to diplex?

Their previous Valcom did not withstand the monsoon winds one year, and was replaced. Not having guy wires must be problematic.

just tried a few minutes ago…no signal maybe testing? can’t hear them at all near Bartlett… I am 20.9 miles from 4949 W. Belmont WSBC 1240 comes in nicely here, from 19.7 miles. (comparable power 1 kW vs 1.125 kW)

I heard a pirate for several days up to yesterday, sunday, on 1300 but I DF’ed the signal to the Streamwood area, west end of Schaumburg. a fellow DXer said the pirate was at about 1299.7 — no professional broadcaster is supposed to be off frequency more than 20 Hz.

@ sasha23, WSBC 1240 does not broadcast from the Belmont Avenue site. They now use the antenna on 5475 N. Milwaukee Avenue diplexed with WCPT 820.

According to FCC filing WRDZ resumed operations on November 14, 2025, which coincides with recent reports of Rebel Radio receptions by various DXers in the area. It could be that they are testing the facilities on Belmont Avenue, which could explain them being off frequency. BTW Rebel Radio is a program that was heard on WPJX 1500 in the past. WPJX is owned by Polnet Communications that also owns WRDZ.

what’s on 1500 Zion now? I’m rarely able to hear that station due to its E-W pattern. I’m
hearing the station in Hobart relaying WLTH, and KSTP in “critical hours”

possible a skirt could detune the RF 300 kHz, but when I direction-finded, signal was coming from nearly north of me in Bartlett, so it seems that could’ve been someone else. the signal was getting weaker on the car radio going towards the city. go figure.

I don't know about Zion. I can't get them at my location. As for WLTH relay on 1500, I don't think that is the case anymore. For the past few days all I have been hearing is a continuous instrumental music which does not match WLTH 1370. I assume that it is WAKE testing their Hobart CP.

Checked the 1300 about 15 minutes ago and again Rebel Radio is in with decent signal. They were not there 2 hours ago, so it looks like they are just testing things out.

I was in Buffalo Grove Sunday morning and heard 1300 playing music that would be something Rebel Radio would play. It was very weak and was pretty much gone by Libertyville; did not get an ID.

WPJX 1500 has been off the air since probably late spring. Their translator @ 92.5 was still running for about a month after 1500 went off.

FCC granted WRDZ the STA from the Belmont Avenue site, but limited the power output at 800 Watts Daytime, 10 Watts Nighttime. It expires on May 17, 2026.

That's true. Since probably October, that's been the case. Mostly smooth jazz (shocker). Think of it like WSBC/WCFJ, after 2008. I live outside Hinsdale, and can't get either one. The NWI SDR has both stations heard day and night. That's how I know.

So, those hearing 1300 are northwest. I got nothing in my area (Hinsdale). It's great that they're back on. Are they still simulcasting 1030, or have Rebel Radio on?

Speaking of 750, any update on what's going on in Portage? They've been entirely, 100% on music for over a year. It's strange how I haven't heard a peep out them, since they (abruptly) got rid of programs. One prediction for this year, they abruptly go silent. You can't be an "automated jukebox" forever. Your thoughts...

I have been checking for the past 3 weeks and it appears that they are not on the air. At least not when I was checking. They were on sporadically at the end of November and early December 2025 with Rebel Radio, but it appears they are no longer on.

Polnet likely got the STA and “tested” in order to keep the license. For me, the signal was weak at 21 miles — not what 800 watts is supposed to sound like at my location in Bartlett.

Their signal should’ve been comparable to WSBC, only 60 kHz down the dial and at a similar distance to my receiving location.

The audio was weak too, maybe 50% modulation and sounded like coming through a telephone line… someone on another forum on Facebook said their frequency was 300 Hz off — no idea if that issue was ever corrected. AM stations are supposed be within +/- 20 Hz if their assigned frequency.

They probably had considerable difficulty tuning the tower skirt — and there are quite a few stations with auxiliary transmitters and antennae on the 4949 W. Belmont tower…

No idea what Polnet intends to do with 1300…(or 1500 for that matter) I’m sure Polskieradio is making nice money for them on 1030/107.1/104.7 and that’s where their focus is…

Most Rebel Radio listeners are likely streaming. It’s in Stereo and the stream sounds great!

I am hearing them today, Jan. 21, with a stronger signal than early December with Rebel Radio, hard rock and WRDZ-1300 ID after the hour. They had been missing for more than a month, at least when I checked, and I didn't think they would be back.

Soimeone at polnet must be involved with rebel radio.. cant imagine why rebel radio would be on 1300 as a stop gap or 1500/92.5 near Zion.....they say they are on 1500/92.5 24/7 and it looks liek 92.5 is on a leased tower .. i cant imagine this internet radio station makes so much they can cover lease fees
