WRKA going news/talk?

gabigley1 said:
I think they changed formats to country because the 103.1 signal is now covering a wider rural area of the market.
BTY from the FCC Website:

Call Sign History
Current Call Sign:
WRKA

Facility ID Number:
20332
Call Sign
Begin Date

They are better able to compete with WAMZ-FM 97.5 MHz because of the much STRONGER signal on 103.1 FM now.

So what was the last song as an oldies station?

I just returned from Rough River State Park and was able to hear what I think was the new "Q-New-Country 103.1-Good Times and Great Country Music WCII, W-C-Double-eye....anyway. I think it was them because it was country at 103.1 processed very heavy. I was able to hear it for about four songs and no ID at at all. The signal didn't make it to Ohio County on Highway 54 but was strong around Rough River.

Meanwhile, WAKY was already airing Johnny Randolph liners welcoming WRKA listeners. In the middle at 103.3 was WAXL Santa Claus running the Optimod 8000 setting on their processor.

As far as the format, we'll see. Is Cox is willing to take the fight to the street with aggressive marketing and promotion? My guess is no. They probably figure playing country songs on 103.1 pull a couple of listeners from WAMZ to help the rest of the cluster, more of that great out of the box thinking that has made radio what it is today!

the same "5songs in a row with no talking" blah blah blah.. same ol' crap that was on 1039.. the press release say "live and local talent soon".. yeah a local board op..

First of all, listen here RADIOVILLE.... SHUSH!

I do remember correctly that I AM CORRECT. You said, oh...Cox will never put country on 103.1. Oh wait, I think I was one of the few that said they would, if im not mistaken...almost a year ago I was the only one.

And in the last year I got dogged on the idea of country on 103.1.

K103...Q103, does it really matter [EDIT-inflammatory]

Point is, ITS COUNTRY...AND I TOLD YOU SO!

I also remember that I said 92.9 in Dayton was flipping to Adult Hits before it happened. I dont know...you still think im an idiot?

And to add icing to your cake Radioville...

COX has agreed to a LARGE and do I mean LARGE marketing campaign. Busboards, Billboards, Television...and whatever else a Q can fit on.

COX also has said that they will be adding a full airstaff, and the next couple weeks the station will start to conform into where it needs to be.

First of all COX said the same thing when they launced country on 1039...
they had TV ads, were doing a "search" for talent.. this will be the same...

Bottom line it's Louisville radio-- as long as Clear Channel is here, Mainline keeps doing small market sounding radio and COX puts everything on automate this market will suck as much as it always has

With that being said, I bet you apply for a job with them!

uhh no.. I haven't been in this market for 3 years!

It won't be the same as country on 103.9 for if it was they would have left it as is and not blown up the oldies station. I bet they will promote the hell otu of it get live talent throughout the day and i think the suits at clear channel have something to worry about.Someone needs to teach the suits at cleat channel a lesson

Where's their transmitter? It must be right outside my window (KW22 and 1694). I can't pick up 102.3, 103.5, 103.9 or 93.9 and 107.7 is full of static. I hear them on my super radio up and down the FM dial. WTF???

They are simulcasting to move the current CUME down the dial to the new position. The station does carry a lot of Cume in the market and shares a ton with WAMZ.

They will market this station, they will put an airstaff on. COX is not as cheap as some of you think. Okay, they may not always have the right thoughts in mind when working on some of their stations, but they know what they need to do to win. New Country 103.9 was only serving as a flanker for cume. Its too small to compete with AMZ. However, now..they can. Now one may have 100k and the other 50k, but they both cover the entire metro crystal clear. Now if I were WAMZ, I would be getting my back end in gear and get ready, because COX know country a lot better than Clear Channel could ever imagine.

It's along I-71 near the Snyder Fwy. If you're Carven from the Fox, I bet we have a common friend named Peter Smith.

You forget WAMZ has Coyote Calhoun who lives and breaths Country Music, Radio and Louisville. His weakness might be the lack of budget to fight off a new Country station.

I will say it again, you want to win get out on the streets, especially with a new product.

That's me :) Didn't you used to call me at the Fox when we were at 100.5? Weren't you the guy with some kind of super antenna?

No wonder I can't pick up any stations, their transmitter might as well be outside my window. Effing mother effers!!!

I was told that they are renting cars, yeah....they did this in Birmingham too, they are renting like 10 normal passenger cars and decking them out all wrapped with the new logo just to drive all over the metro and park at gas stations for 30 minutes on the weekends and stuff.

This is good marketing. And if the price of gas wasn't so crazy, it would be even better.

Cox has a budget, Bain is about the strangle Clear Channel in 2 weeks.

Coyote may be great, and I listened to him before a few times and he is good. However, right now, its about how can Q103.1 serve me, and how can they make me happy (listener view). If you are shaking babies and kissing hands everyone you see and passing out recycler cards that say, listen to us online at q1031.com, guess whats gonna happen.

Coyote and CC Louisville. The country battle is just in the planning stages right now. COX knows country, San Antonio...doesnt.

My money is still on Coyote, with this caveat. Only if he is able to part the red tape into San Antonio and return with a blank check.

kentuckymedia doesn't understand Louisville radio -- he wanted to call it K103 - KENTUCKY's BEST COUNTRY at first, lol.. that would work well in a town that tries at all lengths to distance themself from the state.

Coyote has money and most of all connections. When WPTI launched, Coyote struck exclusive deals with 4th Street Live so that New Country couldn't even be down there, for anything.. that deal has since expired, but, Coyote knows this market, he breaths the format, and knows Nashville -- Cox may have a budget and some cash, but, they wont have Coyote or Bobby Jack - and in Louisville country radio that's where it's at...

Do we really need to count the number of times country has been tried in Louisville?

KJ 989 - 50k watt station
Hot Country 1039
1077 The Hawk
989 The Hawk - 50k watt station
931 the bull
1043 the eagle

and now this... The HAWK was pulling a decent share, until clear channel bought it, even after they bought it and moved it to 989 it was doing decent, but never a real threat to wamz...

I'll believe it when I see it -- COX may bring local talent, but, they'll be tracked and just as scripted as VEZ and SFR is..

"Another 50 minute music hour..."

ughhh
